Jennifer Lawrence may be famous for serious roles, but comedy clearly has a special place in her heart. The Oscar winner recently opened up about the movies that always make her laugh and helped shape her sense of humor. She shared her picks during a conversation with Letterboxd, where actors talk about the films they love most.

Lawrence said comedy has always been part of who she is, even while working on heavy projects like The Hunger Games or Silver Linings Playbook. When asked about the movies that built her so called professional funny bone, she leaned toward loud, messy, and totally absurd films.

A big influence for her is director Adam McKay. She named Anchorman and Step Brothers as all time favorites, which makes sense given that the two worked together on Dont Look Up. She seems to love comedies where actors go all in and are not afraid to look ridiculous.

She also looked back to older classics. One that stood out was Animal House from 1978. The John Landis comedy starring John Belushi left a strong impression on her. According to Lawrence, movies like that paved the way for group comedies where chaos and rebellion drive the laughs.

From the early 2000s, Superbad made her list as well. She praised the awkward energy between Jonah Hill and Michael Cera and how real the high school moments felt. She also gave a nod to The Sweetest Thing, showing that she enjoys romantic comedies just as much as crude humor.

One of her biggest comedy heroes is Jim Carrey. Lawrence pointed to Ace Ventura Pet Detective as a movie she still loves. It was just Jim Carrey in his absolute prime, she said, admiring how his physical comedy could carry an entire film.

Outside of comedy talk, Lawrence has been busy with serious work again. As of early 2026, she is earning praise for her role in Die My Love, a dark thriller directed by Lynne Ramsay. The film came out in late 2025 and recently earned her a Golden Globe nomination.

She is also preparing for several major projects ahead. Lawrence is expected to team up with Martin Scorsese for What Happens at Night, a new mystery drama that will reunite her with Leonardo DiCaprio.
