The Director Julia Roberts Couldn’t Wait To Work With
Julia Roberts has stayed one of Hollywood’s most loved stars by being very picky about the roles she takes. Over the past ten years, she’s only appeared in a few films, but she still has a huge fan following.
Lately, she has been trying her hand at television, like in the psychological thriller Homecoming. This gave her a chance to dive deep into complicated characters that big blockbuster movies often don’t offer. Her work on the show earned her big praise and a Golden Globe nomination.
Before making waves on TV, Roberts had a major hit with the 2017 drama Wonder. The movie tells the story of a young boy dealing with facial disfigurement and was a huge success. It earned $315 million worldwide on a modest $20 million budget. Fans and critics both praised Roberts’ performance, calling it one of the best of her career.
Roberts had a few bumps in her career after the 2010 film Eat Pray Love. Looking for a new direction, she signed on to the 2012 fantasy comedy Mirror Mirror, a modern retelling of Snow White directed by Tarsem Singh Dhandwar.
The movie cost $100 million to make, but it still made a profit even while competing with The Hunger Games at the box office. Roberts said about the project, “It was just Tarsem. I’m so crazy about that guy, there’s no two ways about it. He’s so remarkable, and his point of view is so original and massive.”
She joined the film mainly because she wanted to work with him, not because of the story itself. After that, Roberts earned another Academy Award nomination for August: Osage County and continued picking high-profile projects. In 2025, she starred in the psychological thriller After the Hunt, directed by Luca Guadagnino.
She played a college professor whose life falls apart after a scandal involving a colleague played by Andrew Garfield. Even though the film got mixed reviews and struggled at the box office, Roberts’ performance was widely praised. She even received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for the role.
Looking ahead, Roberts is set to star in the thriller Panic Carefully, reuniting with Leave the World Behind director Sam Esmail. The film will include big names like Elizabeth Olsen, Eddie Redmayne, and Joe Alwyn, and it’s planned for an IMAX release on February 26, 2027.
According to reports, Warner Bros. is also moving forward with Ocean’s 14, where Roberts is expected to team up again with George Clooney and Brad Pitt for a new heist adventure.
With these projects, Roberts is entering one of the busiest times in her recent career. Between high-concept thrillers and long-awaited blockbuster reunions, she’s showing fans that she can still pick exciting, memorable roles.
