“I was a tremendous movie fan. I mean, I got insane over Thunderhead, which was the sequel to My Friend Flicka,” Nicholson recalled, reflecting on how the film fueled his lifelong passion for cinema.

As a teenager, Nicholson moved to California and worked at MGM Cartoon Studio. Although offered a career as an animator, he knew his true calling was in front of the camera.

He got his first professional acting job in 1956 and made his film debut two years later in Cry Baby Killer. That modest start launched what would become one of the most admired careers in Hollywood.

Now 88, Nicholson has mostly retired from acting, last appearing in How Do You Know in 2010. He spends much of his time attending Los Angeles Lakers games at Crypto.com Arena, remaining one of the team’s most famous fans.

Despite stepping away from acting, Nicholson’s influence continues.
