The Hunger Games franchise is gearing up for its next big installment. Sunrise on the Reaping, based on Suzanne Collins’ 2025 novel, is set to hit theaters on November 20, 2026, in the United States and Canada, including IMAX.

The film will continue the story from The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023) while also serving as a prequel to the original Hunger Games from 2012. It will mark the sixth movie in the popular series.

Fans got their first look at the movie with the release of the official trailer and poster, which were teased on Hunger Games social media accounts. The trailer opens with the chilling line, “Let the 50th Hunger Games begin.” This is the first visual glimpse at the characters and the new games that will be central to the story.

Francis Lawrence, who directed previous Hunger Games films, returns to direct Sunrise on the Reaping. The screenplay is written by Billy Ray. Principal photography began in late July in Spain, with shooting taking place in Somiedo and Teverga, according to Lionsgate Films.

The cast includes Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy, Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Ben Wang as Wyatt Callow, Whitney Peak, Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Elle Fanning, Kieran Culkin, Lili Taylor, Billy Porter, Glenn Close, and Ralph Fiennes. Several new actors have also joined the series to play the tributes, including Molly McCann, Iona Bell, and Percy Daggs IV.

With production already underway and the first promotional materials out, Sunrise on the Reaping promises to bring new characters, intense competition, and the dark world of Panem back to life on the big screen.
