A Little History

The Invaders are a group of Golden Age heroes who came together to battle evil during World War 2. The initial roster consisted of characters first associated with the Timely Imprint of comics. This meant that Namor The Sub-Mariner, the Human Torch, Toro, Captain America, and Bucky Barnes made up the team.

The team did not recognize themselves as such until after they saved the life of British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill from Master Man. Upon his saving, he recommended that they continue to band together under the name The Invaders.

Throughout the course of the War, the team continued to fight the Axis enemy. Eventually, the quintet found their way to England where they befriended the original Union Jack, Lord James Montgomery Falsworth. As the War waged on, the team took up his manor as their base of operations. The friendship was so strong that this iteration of Union Jack joined them on the team. Unfortunately, during his first mission with them, his legs were crushed and he was not able to continue.

This set back did not stop them, however. Unfazed, the team continued to battle their enemy and eventually, Lord Falsworth’s children, Jacqueline and Brian became members.

Interestingly, The Invaders were not created during the early run of Captain America, The Human Torch or the Namor Sub-Mariner. Instead, they were referenced in flashbacks depicting their efforts and stories.

Today, The Invaders can still be found together, albeit, not as the original team. Much like the Avengers, This version, along with all others throughout history, has had a revolving door of members.
