‘The Last Sunrise’ Trailer Promises One Unforgettable Summer, and Eva Longoria Is Along for the Ride

Summer romance stories have a reliable magic to them, the kind that thrives on sun-soaked scenery, whirlwind connections, and the bittersweet feeling that time is running out. Amazon’s latest addition to that genre is leaning fully into that formula, and the first trailer just landed to prove it.

That adaptation comes from a name already deeply familiar to romance readers. Anna Todd, best known for creating the massively popular ‘After’ book series, penned the novel this new film is based on, giving the project built-in name recognition before a single frame had even been shown.

Now, Prime Video has officially released the trailer for ‘The Last Sunrise’, confirming the film will begin streaming globally on August 26. Directed by Carlson Young from a screenplay by Anna Klassen, the story follows Ry, played by Maia Reficco, a college student diagnosed with a chronic illness who embarks on a summer escape to the island of Mallorca alongside her mother.

That mother role belongs to Eva Longoria, whose character reportedly has her own agenda for the trip, one that includes plans to build a hotel in Mallorca aimed at tourists. As the trailer unfolds, Ry unexpectedly falls for a local named Julián, played by Fernando Lindez, and begins learning to fully embrace living in the moment.

That romance doesn’t come without complications, though. According to the film’s official synopsis, Ry’s worsening condition and long-hidden family secrets threaten to unravel everything before the summer draws to a close, giving the love story an emotional undercurrent beneath its sun-drenched setting.

The trailer itself opens with the tagline “One summer can change everything,” setting the tone for a story built around urgency and fleeting connection. Throughout the footage, Reficco’s Ry and Lindez’s Julián are shown falling deeper for one another even as tension begins creeping into what initially looks like a perfect summer getaway.

The supporting cast rounds out with Sabrina Bartlett, Andrés Velencoso, and Chloé Sweetlove, adding further depth to the ensemble surrounding Ry’s journey. Production on the film took place on location in Mallorca, filmed the previous August, lending the movie an authentic sense of place that fits its coastal, sun-drenched aesthetic.

Behind the scenes, the film is produced by Jennifer Gibgot, Lena Roklin, Andrew Panay, Brian Pitt, and Todd herself, keeping the author closely involved in bringing her own story to the screen. Todd’s connection to the ‘After’ franchise, which built a massive fanbase through both its novels and subsequent film adaptations, gives ‘The Last Sunrise’ a built-in audience already primed for emotionally charged romance.

With an R rating attached for some sexuality, nudity, and language, the film appears positioned as a more mature take on the young adult romance genre than some of Todd’s earlier adaptations. Given the reliable appetite for Mallorca-set, summer-fling storytelling, ‘The Last Sunrise’ looks poised to become a genuine late-summer streaming draw.
