‘The Madison’ Season 2 Officially Hits a Major Taylor Sheridan Milestone

Taylor Sheridan has built an entire television empire over the last several years, stacking hit after hit across multiple networks and genres while barely slowing down. But even by his own prolific standards, his newest Western has managed to stand out from the crowded field.

The Madison‘ arrived on Paramount+ this past March as a standalone family drama set far outside the world of Yellowstone, and it wasted no time proving it could hold its own. Led by Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell as Stacy and Preston Clyburn, the series debuted to 8,000,000 global viewers within its first 10 days, making it the biggest original series launch for any Sheridan show on the platform.

That instant success set the stage for something even more unusual now that Season 2 has arrived. According to ScreenRant, ‘The Madison’ has become the first series in Sheridan’s career to have two seasons greenlit and produced simultaneously, a milestone that speaks to just how much confidence Paramount placed in the show before it had even proven itself with audiences.

The decision to shoot both seasons back-to-back was driven largely by scheduling. Kurt Russell’s overlapping commitments to Apple TV’s ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ meant the production team needed to lock in his availability early, and Russell explained the workaround directly.

“And then before we start the second season next year, instead of doing that, we will start with Kurt’s stuff,” Russell told Entertainment Weekly, adding that the plan allowed the team to complete his first season commitments before immediately moving into filming Season 2.

That approach effectively meant Season 2 was already in the can well before most viewers even finished bingeing the show’s freshman run. The strategy paid off, as Paramount had renewed the series for Season 2 just 12 days after its original premiere, an unusually fast turnaround even by streaming standards.

The show’s success comes despite a fairly mixed critical reception, with ‘The Madison’ currently sitting at a 60% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes alongside a stronger 73% audience rating. That disconnect hasn’t slowed its momentum in the slightest, with the series also becoming Sheridan’s biggest freshman season debut among women 35 and older, a demographic that matters enormously to Paramount+’s broader strategy.

Sheridan’s track record makes this latest achievement feel almost inevitable in hindsight. He’s currently responsible for five of the 10 most-watched series in Paramount+ history, a list that includes ‘Yellowstone,’ ‘Landman,’ ‘Lioness,’ ‘Mayor of Kingstown,’ and ‘Tulsa King.’

‘The Madison’ has also already secured a third season, further cementing Sheridan’s dominance across the platform even as he juggles multiple simultaneous productions. Season 3 isn’t expected to begin filming until early 2027, according to comments from cast member Ben Schnetzer, meaning fans still have a considerable wait ahead even as Season 2 finally makes its way to screens.

For a series that started as an offshoot idea before being spun off as a completely standalone story, ‘The Madison’ has quickly proven it doesn’t need the Yellowstone name attached to draw a massive audience. With two more seasons already locked in, Sheridan’s newest Western looks like it’s just getting started.
