‘The Odyssey’ Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score Is Finally Here, and It’s One-Sided
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has officially arrived in theaters, and the first audience reactions suggest that the filmmaker may have another major hit on his hands. The Rotten Tomatoes audience score has landed, and early viewers are showing overwhelming support for the epic fantasy adventure.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, The Odyssey currently holds a 96% audience score from more than 500 verified ratings. While critics’ reviews often create the first wave of conversation around a major release, audience reactions are showing that many moviegoers are connecting strongly with Nolan’s ambitious adaptation of Homer’s legendary Greek epic.
The film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the king of Ithaca who struggles to find his way home after the Trojan War. His journey takes him across dangerous seas and into encounters with mythical creatures and powerful forces, while he fights to return to his wife Penelope, played by Anne Hathaway.
The massive cast also includes Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Samantha Morton, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron. Nolan produced the film alongside his wife Emma Thomas through their production company Syncopy.
The Odyssey marks one of Nolan’s biggest filmmaking challenges yet. The director spent years preparing the project, studying different translations of Homer’s original poem and creating his own realistic approach to Greek mythology. The film was inspired by classic historical epics and the work of legendary visual effects artist Ray Harryhausen.

With an estimated budget of around $250 million, The Odyssey is also one of Nolan’s most expensive movies. The production was filmed across several countries, including Morocco, Greece, Italy, Scotland, Iceland, Western Sahara, and Malta. It was also shot entirely using IMAX 70mm film cameras, making it a major cinematic experience for fans who choose to see it in premium formats.
Early audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes have been extremely positive. Many viewers praised the scale, action, and emotional impact of the movie.
One verified audience member named Zach called it “One of the all time greatest stories put on screen.”
Another viewer, Justin, praised the adventure elements, writing that he “Loved the action adventure throughout!”
Gary S. described the film as “One of Nolan’s best! A master class in filmmaking,” while also mentioning the challenges of watching it on an IMAX screen.
Other moviegoers shared similar excitement. Amanda called it “the best I’ve seen in YEARS” and said she would happily watch it again. Rebecca also praised the film, saying, “So good! Best movie I have seen in a long time! Very well done!”
The audience response suggests that Nolan’s version of The Odyssey has managed to satisfy both fans of epic storytelling and viewers looking for a large-scale theatrical experience. While discussions about casting choices and historical accuracy surrounded the film before release, the early reactions show that many audiences are focused on the final result.
