The Old Guard 2: New Photos and Big Changes Revealed for Netflix Sequel

Netflix has shared exciting new photos from The Old Guard 2, and fans are in for a wild ride when the movie arrives on July 2, 2025. The sequel brings back many familiar faces from the first film, including Charlize Theron as Andy, but this time, things are very different.

Like the first movie from 2020, the sequel is based on the graphic novels by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez. In the story, Andy leads a group of immortal warriors who protect the world from danger. But in this new chapter, Andy is no longer immortal.

The stakes have never been higher. Andy is mortal now, so there’s a very real possibility that she could die during any mission this time around,” Charlize Theron said.

Theron also shared how her character has changed since losing her immortality: “The last film saw some intense changes in the dynamic of the group: Andy lost her immortality, Nile [KiKi Layne] became immortal, and Booker [Matthias Schoenaerts] was exiled. We see that Andy’s leadership style has changed. Because she’s mortal now, she’s dedicating however much time she has left to doing the most good she can.

The team, known as The Old Guard, is stronger than ever. Nile is now fully part of the group, and together they’re ready for bigger challenges and stronger enemies.

The Old Guard has also never been more powerful — with Nile fully assimilated into the group, they’re even more lethal, and the action sequences in this film are next-level,” Theron explained. “They’ll face old friends and new foes, and Andy will certainly have to face her past in a way we haven’t seen yet – and decide what that means for her future, however long that might be.

Returning cast members include KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Copley, Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli as Joe and Nicky, and Veronica Ngô as Quynh, who escaped her underwater prison at the end of the first film.

Joining the cast are Uma Thurman in a secret role, and Henry Golding as a new team member named Tuah.

The movie is directed by Victoria Mahoney, with a script written by Greg Rucka and Sarah L. Walker.

The Old Guard 2 launches on Netflix on July 2, 2025.
