‘The Pitt’ Star Noah Wyle (55) Is People’s Sexiest Man Alive, and His Kids Are Already Plotting the Roast

Few actors have had a late-career run quite like Noah Wyle’s. Three decades after he first scrubbed in as a young doctor on ‘ER’, he has become one of television’s most celebrated leading men, a transformation powered by an HBO Max medical drama that has turned the actor into a new generation’s crush.

‘The Pitt’ follows Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch in real time, with each episode covering an hour of a hospital shift. Wyle’s portrayal has earned him a Golden Globe in 2026 and back-to-back Emmys for lead actor in a drama series.

Now another honor has landed on his desk. People magazine has named Noah Wyle its 2026 Sexiest Man Alive, a title announced on Tuesday, October 27.

The 55-year-old is the first-time recipient, and the magazine’s headline read “No Second Opinion Needed,” a nod to his Emmy-winning role. Amy Poehler revealed the cover on her podcast ‘Good Hang’ shortly before Wyle joined her in the studio.

The news came about a month after Wyle won the Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a drama series at the 78th Emmy Awards on September 14. ‘The Pitt’ also took home the award for outstanding drama series.

He succeeds ‘Wicked’ star Jonathan Bailey, who was the first openly gay man to receive the honor, and John Krasinski before him. The contest, launched in 1985 by Mel Gibson, is now in its 41st year.

The win carries a delicious bit of history. Wyle’s ‘ER’ costar George Clooney was crowned Sexiest Man Alive in 1997 and 2006, and Clooney presented the award to him.

Back in January, at the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards, Clooney joked that the organization should do a “sexiest man still alive” issue, with Wyle as his first nominee. In the 1990s, Wyle and his ‘ER’ costars also appeared on People’s “Sexy Men of ER” issue.

Wyle’s first reaction was suspicion. He told People that when he heard the news, it sounded like a prank, adding that he never imagined such an honor being bestowed on him in this lifetime.

He is also a bit self-deprecating about the new role. Wyle admitted that he still feels insecure when he has to speak as himself, without a script. He likes hiding in other people’s skin, he said, and finds the hardest interactions are the ones where he can’t play a character.

At home, the reaction has been more measured. His wife, actress Sara Wells, is amused by it all, Wyle said, and was pleased that the title reflects well on her taste.

He added that she thinks the kind of person, father and husband he is is worth promoting. Wyle and Wells married in June 2014 and have a daughter, Frances. He also has two children, Owen and Auden, from his earlier marriage to Tracy Warbin.

The family, it seems, will not be letting this go to his head. Owen reportedly told his father that the title would only complicate his life and attract haters, while Auden has repeatedly told him that he has no chance.

Wyle expects his children to tease him over it for years to come. It’s a charming echo of the grounded tone that has characterized his awards run, where he has often credited family and the show’s team.

The most memorable detail may be domestic. Wyle revealed that he’s in charge of washing the dishes at home and considers himself a master at it. He even recommended that more men do the dishes, calling it a surprisingly therapeutic job.

The honor lands as ‘The Pitt’ remains a streaming heavyweight. Season 2 ran from January 8 through an April 16 finale, with Wyle writing, directing and starring.
