‘The Pitt’ Stars Earn Emmy Recognition With A Bold Self-Submission Move
‘The Pitt’ has become one of the biggest shows of the Emmy season, earning major recognition across several categories. Among the surprises this year are guest stars Brittany Allen and Jeff Kober, who both received Emmy nominations after choosing to submit themselves for consideration.
Self-submitting for an Emmy is not unusual, but receiving a nomination through that route is much harder. One of the rare examples came when ‘Game of Thrones’ star Gwendoline Christie submitted herself and earned a nomination for playing Brienne of Tarth in 2019. Allen and Kober have now joined that small group of performers who successfully made their own Emmy campaigns happen.
Allen received a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her emotional performance as Roxie Hamler. Her character arrives at the emergency room after suffering a broken leg and seizures while dealing with terminal cancer.
Throughout the season, Roxie faces an incredibly difficult decision about her future. Instead of returning home to hospice care with her family, she chooses to stay in the hospital because of her pain and concerns about becoming a burden to her husband and children. Allen appears in seven episodes of the show’s second season and became one of the season’s most memorable guest performers.
Allen revealed that she was running her own Emmy campaign after HBO did not submit her for consideration. In an Instagram post shared on June 15, the actress wrote, “I’m running my own #FYC campaign!”
HBO and Max CEO Casey Bloys later addressed Allen’s nomination in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He explained that because ‘The Pitt’ features such a large cast, the network has to make difficult choices when deciding who to officially submit.
“The Pitt has hundreds of performers and we simply, just strategically, can’t submit everybody. It’s just the reality. But we encourage people to self-submit and I love that she got nominated,” Bloys said.
Kober also earned his Emmy nomination through self-submission for his role as Duke Ekins. The actor plays a motorcycle mechanic and friend of Dr. Robby, played by Noah Wyle, and appears in six episodes.
Duke becomes an important figure during one of the season’s most emotional moments. His character helps Robby through a personal crisis and tries to stop him from making dangerous choices after his struggles continue to build throughout the season.

Kober is already a familiar face to television audiences, with past roles in shows including ‘General Hospital’, where he won a Daytime Emmy for playing Cyrus Renault. He has also appeared in series such as ‘China Beach’, ‘Sons of Anarchy’, and ‘The Walking Dead’.
Allen also has previous Emmy recognition, winning a Daytime Emmy for her role as Marissa Tasker Chandler on ‘All My Children’. Her other credits include films such as ‘Extraterrestrial’ and ‘What Keeps You Alive’.
The success of Allen and Kober is part of a much larger Emmy celebration for ‘The Pitt’. The series earned 25 nominations overall, including a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. Other nominated performers include Noah Wyle, Fiona Dourif, Katherine LaNasa, Sepideh Moafi, Patrick Ball, Shawn Hatosy, Gerran Howell, and Taylor Dearden.
The show also received additional guest acting nominations, including Tal Anderson for playing Becca King, Tina Ivlev for her role as Ilana Miller, and Ernest Harden Jr. for playing Louie Cloverfield.
Are you surprised that ‘The Pitt’ stars Brittany Allen and Jeff Kober earned Emmy nominations after self-submitting?
With so many performers recognized, ‘The Pitt’ has proven that its large ensemble is one of its biggest strengths. However, Allen and Kober’s journeys stand out because they show how taking control of your own career can sometimes lead to one of television’s biggest honors.
