‘The Remarried Empress’: Trailer, Release Date, Cast, Plot, and Where to Watch Disney+’s Big K-Drama Adaptation

Webtoon adaptations have become one of the most reliable pipelines for Korean television lately, and few source titles carry the kind of built-in fanbase that ‘The Remarried Empress‘ brings with it. The fantasy-romance webtoon has amassed nearly 3 billion views worldwide, making it one of the most-read titles in its genre and a natural pick for a splashy live-action treatment.

Disney has been teasing that treatment for months, and the streamer has now confirmed it’s positioning the show as one of its biggest Korean productions to date. At its Asia-Pacific content showcase last year, Disney described ‘The Remarried Empress’ as the most expensive Korean drama it has ever produced, and the show was shot across multiple European locations alongside elaborately constructed palace sets to match that ambition.

That investment is finally paying off with a confirmed launch. ‘The Remarried Empress’ premieres November 4 on Disney+ internationally and Hulu in the United States, with the 10-episode series rolling out four episodes at launch, followed by two new installments every Wednesday through its November 25 finale.

The story follows Empress Navier, the seemingly perfect empress of the Eastern Empire, whose marriage to Emperor Sovieshu begins to unravel after he falls for a runaway slave named Rashta and asks for a divorce. Rather than fight the split, Navier agrees on one condition: she wants permission to remarry Crown Prince Heinrey of the rival Western Kingdom, a decision that sets off a tangled power struggle threatening to destabilize both kingdoms as she works to reclaim her standing.

Leading the cast is Shin Mina, known for ‘Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha’ and ‘Karma,’ who stars as Empress Navier. She’s joined by Ju Jihoon, of ‘Light Shop’ and ‘The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call,’ as Emperor Sovieshu, while Lee Jongsuk from ‘Big Mouth’ plays Crown Prince Heinrey. Lee Seyoung, known for ‘The Red Sleeve’ and ‘The Crowned Clown,’ rounds out the central quartet as Rashta, the escaped slave at the center of the emperor’s pursuit.

Behind the camera, Cho Suwon, known for ‘Still 17’ and ‘Pinocchio,’ directs the series, with the screen adaptation handled by Yeoh Geena and Hyun Choongyeol. The first teaser trailer has already dropped, opening on the sprawling Eastern Empire before introducing Navier as Sovieshu vows, “No matter what, you are my one and only wife,” setting up the betrayal that kicks off the entire story.

Character posters released alongside the trailer spotlight each member of the central love quadrangle with dialogue pulled straight from their arcs, including Sovieshu’s declaration that he must divorce the empress and Heinrey’s courtly introduction to Navier as his queen. It’s a clear signal that Disney is leaning into the show’s soapy, high-stakes romance angle as its central hook for new viewers unfamiliar with the source material.

Before its full streaming rollout, ‘The Remarried Empress’ will get a splashy send-off at the Busan International Film Festival in October, where three of its ten episodes, running a combined 151 minutes, will have their world premiere as part of the festival’s On Screen selection. That sidebar has previously showcased high-profile series ahead of their release, putting ‘The Remarried Empress’ in good company as it heads toward its wide launch.

With a built-in fanbase from the source webtoon and one of Disney’s most expensive Korean productions to date backing it, ‘The Remarried Empress’ looks positioned to be one of the platform’s bigger fall releases.
