Marvel’s biggest movie is still deep in production, and one of the biggest challenges behind the scenes has nothing to do with visual effects or action scenes. According to Joe and Anthony Russo, bringing together one of the largest casts ever assembled for a superhero movie has been one of the most demanding parts of making ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’

Speaking about the upcoming film, the Russo Brothers explained that coordinating so many actors has become a huge task. They told fans that every cast member has a different schedule, making it a constant puzzle to figure out who can be on set and when. Despite the challenge, they said the process has been exciting because of the incredible group of actors involved.

“Every day we’re trying to figure out who’s available. It’s like running a very complicated chess game,” the filmmakers said while discussing the production. They added that working with such a massive ensemble requires careful planning long before the cameras start rolling.

The directors are no strangers to handling enormous Marvel casts. They previously directed both ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ films that brought together heroes from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is expected to go even bigger by combining familiar MCU heroes with returning characters from the X-Men films and introducing Robert Downey Jr. in his new role as Doctor Doom.

Marvel Studios officially announced the film’s cast earlier this year, confirming appearances from stars including Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Pedro Pascal, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Simu Liu, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Joseph Quinn, Channing Tatum, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming, Kelsey Grammer and many more. With so many major actors involved, scheduling has naturally become one of the production’s biggest obstacles.

The Russo Brothers said that while organizing everyone is difficult, it also creates exciting opportunities to pair together characters who have never shared the screen before. Fans can expect interactions between heroes and villains from different corners of the Marvel universe, something the filmmakers believe will make the movie feel unique.

Another major talking point is Robert Downey Jr.’s return to Marvel. Instead of playing Tony Stark again, the Oscar-winning actor will step into the role of Victor Von Doom, one of Marvel’s greatest villains. His casting surprised fans around the world and immediately made ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ one of the most anticipated superhero movies in years.

Although Marvel has kept the story tightly under wraps, the film is expected to lead directly into ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ making it a crucial chapter in the Multiverse Saga. The Russo Brothers have remained careful not to reveal plot details, but they have continued teasing the scale of the project and the enormous effort required to bring it all together.

Production is currently underway, with the filmmakers focused on balancing the story while giving each character meaningful moments. That has been one of the biggest expectations from fans, especially after the success of their previous Avengers films.

The Russo Brothers say managing the massive cast of 'Avengers: Doomsday' has been one of the film's biggest challenges. How excited are you for Marvel's next Avengers movie?

If everything comes together as planned, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ could become one of Marvel Studios’ most ambitious productions yet. Between its record-breaking cast, the return of the Russo Brothers, and Robert Downey Jr.’s shocking transformation into Doctor Doom, the film is already shaping up to be one of the biggest cinematic events of the next few years.
