‘The Simpsons’ Season 38 Episode 3 Release Date, Time and Where to Watch as “The Revengening” Brings a Killer to Springfield
Springfield is about to get a lot bloodier. The next Halloween themed outing for ‘The Simpsons‘ is titled ‘Treehouse of Horror Presents The Revengening’ and is dated for October 18, 2026. For fans who like their yellow family with a side of slasher, this is the Simpsons episode to mark on the calendar.
The setup is as simple as it is ominous. All hell breaks loose on Halloween when a killer comes to Springfield and hacks their way through town, and the show’s own description warns that no Simpson is safe. Here is everything you need to know about when it airs, how to catch it and what the episode has in store.
Release Date for the Latest ‘The Simpsons’ Episode
Most episode guides point to Sunday, October 18 for the premiere. Wikisimpsons lists the episode with that date, and Wikipedia counts it as the 812th episode overall and the third of the season. That makes it the first Halloween flavored episode of the run.

A couple of listings do not quite agree, so it is worth double checking your local schedule. Rotten Tomatoes shows the episode airing on October 12, while one other guide places a different title, ‘The Kosmic Kruiser’, in the October 18 slot. The weight of the evidence still favors ‘The Revengening’ on October 18.
There is plenty to watch before and after. ‘Diary of a Chimpy Kid’ arrives on October 4, and ‘Treehouse of Horror XXXVII’ follows on October 25, with ‘Testing 1 2 3’ set for November 1. That gives Halloween season viewers a pretty stacked run of new episodes.
What Time ‘The Simpsons’ Airs on Sunday Night
The show keeps its familiar slot. Episodes premiere at 8 PM ET and PT on Sundays, so East Coast and West Coast viewers can tune in at the same clock time.
The series sits inside a larger lineup. The season premiered on September 27 as part of Fox’s Animation Domination block alongside ‘Animal Control’, ‘Grimsburg’ and ‘Universal Basic Guys’. Settling in for the whole night of cartoons is an easy way to make a Sunday of it.
Parents may want to take note of the rating too. The episode carries a TV-14 rating, which fits a story built around a knife wielding menace.
Where to Watch ‘The Simpsons’ Season Episodes
The main home for new episodes is broadcast television. The series airs on Fox, with select episodes streaming on Disney+, so a Fox channel is the surest way to see ‘The Revengening’ on its first night.
Disney+ plays a bigger role than it used to. Seasons 38 through 40 each include two Disney+ exclusive episodes that sit outside the regular Fox count. ‘The Revengening’ is listed among the Fox episodes, so it should not require a streaming exclusive.
Fans can count on a long runway of new material. Fox renewed the show to reach its fortieth season, which means plenty more Sunday nights ahead.
A Preview of ‘The Revengening’ and the Halloween Slate
The central hook is the slasher style threat. The official description teases that no Simpson is safe from the Revengening, which suggests the family will be hunted rather than just haunted. It is a fun twist on the Halloween formula the series has leaned on for decades.
The guest list adds some intrigue. Conductor Gustavo Dudamel appears as himself, and he joins a season guest roster that also includes Emma Thompson, Henry Winkler and Rachel Bloom.
Showrunner Matt Selman has already been talking up the season. In an interview with Variety, Selman called the season opener a love letter to children’s books. Critics have been more measured, and IGN gave the new season a 6 out of 10 and said it does nothing especially noteworthy to mark the occasion, which leaves plenty of room for a Halloween episode to win viewers back.
The spooky season does not stop there. ‘Treehouse of Horror XXXVII’ follows on October 25 with three segments, including one where Homer ends up trapped in endless murderous Driver’s Ed films by witch versions of Patty and Selma. With a killer loose in Springfield and Gustavo Dudamel turning up as himself, which Simpson do you think should be first on the slasher’s list in ‘The Revengening’?
