'The Testament of Ann Lee' Star Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski Split After Nine Years of Marriage

Amanda Seyfried has spent the better part of two decades as one of Hollywood’s most consistently working actresses, moving fluidly between blockbuster musicals, prestige limited series and quietly devastating indie dramas. Alongside that career, her marriage to actor Thomas Sadoski has stood out as one of the industry’s steadier long-term relationships, largely kept out of the tabloid churn that follows so many celebrity couples.

That steadiness traces back more than a decade, to when Seyfried and Sadoski first met in 2015 while starring together in the off-Broadway play ‘The Way We Get By.’ They reunited later that same year to play love interests in the film ‘The Last Word,’ and their real-life relationship became public in early 2016 before the couple quietly married in March 2017.

Now, after nine years of marriage, Seyfried and Sadoski have announced they are splitting. The former couple confirmed the news in a joint statement provided to People, writing that they had been separated for some time and that the decision felt right for their family, adding that they’ve “got each other forever—and it’s GOOD.”

The relatively upbeat tone of the announcement reflects how the couple has generally handled their public partnership, favoring warmth and mutual support over drama. Seyfried thanked Sadoski during her 2022 Emmy acceptance speech after winning Outstanding Lead Actress for ‘The Dropout,’ and as recently as January of this year, she spoke about how much he sacrifices to support her career.

Seyfried and Sadoski share two children together, a daughter born just days after their 2017 wedding and a son born in 2020. Their daughter is currently nine years old, while their son is about to turn six.

Both actors have kept busy in the years since their marriage began. Sadoski is known for his role as Don Keefer on HBO’s ‘The Newsroom’ and as Matt Short on the CBS sitcom ‘Life in Pieces,’ while also serving on the board of the nonprofit INARA, which helps children displaced by conflict access medical care. Seyfried, meanwhile, has had an especially active stretch recently, starring in ‘The Testament of Ann Lee,’ ‘The Housemaid’ and the miniseries ‘Long Bright River’ within the last year alone.

Seyfried first broke through as an actress at just fifteen years old, working on soap operas before landing her breakout film role as Karen Smith in ‘Mean Girls’ in 2004. She went on to lead major films including ‘Mamma Mia!,’ ‘Dear John’ and ‘In Time,’ building a body of work that has grossed billions of dollars worldwide and earned her recognition as one of Time’s 100 most influential people.

As with most celebrity separations, the couple’s statement leaves plenty of questions unanswered, including what led to their decision after nearly a decade of marriage.
