The Testaments is already moving forward with a second season, and with a rapid pace.

The announcement came through a video shared online showing the cast on set holding a clapperboard. The caption read, “That’s a wrap on Season 1. 🎬✨ See you for Season 2!” The post quickly confirmed to fans that the story will continue.

Hulu had already renewed The Testaments for season 2 ahead of its season 1 finale. The renewal was announced in May 2026, just before the final episode of season 1 aired on May 27. The decision was reportedly based on strong viewership growth throughout the season, with audiences increasing week after week.

The series is based on the 2019 novel The Testaments by Margaret Atwood. It is also a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, which was adapted from Atwood’s earlier 1985 novel. Both stories take place in the dystopian world of Gilead, a strict and totalitarian society where women’s rights are heavily controlled.

Season 1 follows a younger generation growing up inside Gilead. The main characters include Agnes, played by Chase Infiniti, and Daisy, played by Lucy Halliday. The show also brings back Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia, a character familiar to fans of The Handmaid’s Tale. Other cast members include Rowan Blanchard, Mabel Li, and several younger actors playing students and figures inside Gilead’s strict system.

While season 2 details are still secret, the show is expected to continue following the events of the book and expand beyond them. The first season ended with major tension between the characters, especially around their future choices and loyalty within Gilead’s system.

The season 1 finale, titled “Secateurs,” focused on difficult decisions and emotional conflict. According to the episode description, “While Becka faces the consequences of her actions, Agnes and Daisy must decide how far they’re willing to go to protect her.” This ending set up clear direction for future storylines and character development.

Some cast members have already shared thoughts about where their characters could go next. Rowan Blanchard, who plays Shunammite Hayes, spoke about her role in an interview with Teen Vogue. She said, “I think, for the most part, she really wants to get pregnant and be married. That’s what she wants. So I wonder what will make her crack a little bit.” Her comments suggest that season 2 may continue exploring the pressure placed on young women in Gilead.

The series is closely connected to the world of The Handmaid’s Tale, which already ran for multiple seasons and became a major hit for Hulu. That original show also featured Elisabeth Moss as June Osborne, a character who appeared briefly in The Testaments season 1 in a surprise role.

Showrunner Bruce Miller, speaking in an interview with People, explained the ongoing collaboration with Moss. He said, “She didn’t want to hang up her cloak, as she says.” He also added that Moss has remained deeply involved in the creative direction of the franchise since the beginning.

With season 2 already confirmed and production momentum building, The Testaments is set to continue expanding the world of Gilead, following its new generation of characters while staying closely tied to the events of The Handmaid’s Tale.
