Marvel Studios has spent months assembling what may be the most ambitious ensemble in superhero film history for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, and the casting announcements have ranged from triumphant returns to genuinely jaw-dropping surprises. But a new addition has drawn attention for an entirely different reason. Not because of who the actor is, but because of who they might be playing.

Young actor Pacino Khan has been officially confirmed in the cast of ‘Avengers: Doomsday. The child actor’s listing has been added quietly, and his exact role has not been disclosed. At first glance it might seem like a minor casting note alongside a roster that includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Patrick Stewart, and dozens more. But context reveals this could be one of the most significant additions in the film.

The casting of a young child in a film that directly follows the events of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ almost certainly points to Franklin Richards, the son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm, who was introduced in that film as a baby possessing the Power Cosmic. In the mid-credits scene of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’, set four years after the main events of the film, a hooded figure in a green cloak kneeling in front of a young Franklin, brandishing a silver mask, made the connection between Doctor Doom and the Richards child the central thread going forward.

That mid-credits moment established Doctor Doom’s interest in Franklin from the earliest possible moment. Previous reports had already indicated that Marvel was looking for an actor between 10 and 13 to play Franklin in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, and a TikTok video from AGBO, the Russo Brothers’ production company, showed mannequins wearing Franklin Richards and Sue Storm’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ costumes, with Franklin’s clearly sized for an older child than the baby seen at the end of ‘First Steps’. The casting of Pacino Khan, who appears to be roughly in that age range based on the photograph circulating alongside the announcement, fits that profile.

In the comics, Doctor Doom is an integral figure in the lives of Franklin Richards and his younger sister Valeria as both children and adults. That dynamic has already been seeded by the MCU timeline, and the significance of Franklin possessing the Power Cosmic, the same fundamental energy wielded by entities like Galactus, cannot be overstated in the context of a film about a multiverse-threatening villain.

The broader cast around this new addition is a testament to how seriously the Russo Brothers are treating the scope of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. Confirmed returning heroes include Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Letitia Wright as Shuri, and Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, alongside the original X-Men actors Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, and Kelsey Grammer.

At the center of it all is Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, whose stated interest in young Franklin Richards since the mid-credits scene of ‘First Steps’ frames the child as potentially one of the most important characters in the entire narrative, not just a supporting player. According to insider reports, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will also introduce Franklin’s younger sister Valeria, with Doctor Doom reportedly assisting in her birth and naming her after his own late wife.

The quiet addition of Pacino Khan to the IMDb cast list may be the most understated announcement in a film full of loud ones. When a child with the Power Cosmic is at the center of Doctor Doom’s plans, every detail about that child matters enormously.

Who do you think Pacino Khan is playing in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, and how significant do you think Franklin Richards will be to the film’s story? Share your thoughts in the comments.
