5 Things About ‘Ms. Marvel’ That Made Zero Sense and 5 Things That Made Perfect Sense
I recently dove into ‘Ms. Marvel’ on Disney+, a vibrant show that brings Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American teen, to life as a superhero. It’s a fresh addition to the MCU, blending teen drama with superhero action, and Iman Vellani’s performance as Kamala is a standout.
While the series nails a lot of things, like Kamala’s relatable struggles and cultural depth, some moments left me puzzled. Here’s my take on five things in ‘Ms. Marvel’ (2022) that didn’t add up and five that hit the mark perfectly.
Zero Sense: Kamala’s Instant Power Mastery

Kamala gains her powers from a bangle and seems to control them almost instantly. Unlike other MCU heroes who struggle to harness their abilities, she’s creating hard-light constructs with ease by episode two.
This feels unrealistic for a teenager with no training. A slower learning curve would’ve made her growth more believable and added depth to her journey.
Zero Sense: The Clandestines’ Vague Motives

The Clandestines, a group chasing Kamala’s bangle, have murky goals. They want to return to the Noor Dimension, but their plan and reasons feel half-baked.
Their sudden shift from allies to villains also lacks clear reasoning, making their arc feel rushed and confusing.
Zero Sense: Damage Control’s Over-the-Top Pursuit

The Department of Damage Control hounds Kamala like she’s a major threat, despite her being a teen with minor incidents. Their aggressive tactics, like chasing her through Jersey City, seem overblown.
It’s hard to buy that they’d prioritize her over bigger MCU threats, and their role feels forced to add tension.
Zero Sense: Kamran’s Power Transfer

Kamran, Kamala’s friend, gains powers after his mother’s death in a sudden transfer. The show doesn’t explain how or why this happens, leaving it as a convenient plot device.
This moment feels tacked on to give Kamran a bigger role, but it lacks the groundwork to make sense.
Zero Sense: Underwhelming CGI Effects

The CGI for Kamala’s hard-light powers often looks rough, with bright, clunky visuals that don’t blend well with live-action scenes. For a show centered on her unique abilities, this is a letdown.
The budget constraints are noticeable, pulling me out of key moments when the effects feel more cartoonish than cinematic.
Perfect Sense: Kamala’s Teen Struggles

Kamala’s life as a high schooler, juggling school, friends, and family expectations, feels authentic. Her awkwardness and dreams of being a superhero are relatable.
This grounding in everyday teen challenges makes her a fresh and engaging MCU hero.
Perfect Sense: Cultural Representation

The show weaves Kamala’s Pakistani-American identity into every aspect, from family dynamics to food and language. Scenes like Aamir’s wedding bring vibrant cultural details to life.
This authenticity adds depth and makes the show stand out in the MCU.
Perfect Sense: Kamala’s Fangirl Energy

Kamala’s obsession with Captain Marvel, shown through her fanfic and AvengersCon antics, is spot-on. It captures the excitement of a teen idolizing heroes.
Her enthusiasm feels natural and sets up her growth into a hero herself.
Perfect Sense: Family Dynamics

The Khan family, with Muneeba’s strict parenting and Yusuf’s warm support, feels real and layered. Their interactions, like Yusuf’s heartfelt talk about Kamala’s name, add emotional weight.
These moments make the family a core strength of the series.
Perfect Sense: Iman Vellani’s Casting

Iman Vellani as Kamala is a perfect fit. Her natural charm and energy bring the character to life, capturing both Kamala’s quirky humor and her heroic spirit.
Her performance carries the show, making every scene engaging and believable.
