This Leonardo DiCaprio Movie Had Audiences Talking for All the Wrong Reasons
Leonardo DiCaprio has built a career that most actors can only dream of. For years, he has been known for picking strong scripts and turning them into big moments in film. His name alone often brings attention, awards buzz, and strong reviews. But even with that kind of track record, not every project connects with audiences.
One recent example of his impact is the film One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The movie came out in September 2025 and followed DiCaprio as a former revolutionary living off the grid.
It did not perform well at the box office compared to its large budget, but that did not stop it from dominating awards season. The film went on to win six Oscars at the 98th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, showing how DiCaprio’s projects can still succeed in a big way even when audiences are divided.
A similar situation happened with Don’t Look Up, directed by Adam McKay. The film had a huge cast and a strong message, but it also split viewers. Some people felt it was too heavy-handed, while others praised it.
Even with the mixed reactions, it still earned a Best Picture nomination, adding to DiCaprio’s long list of award-recognized roles. Still, there is one film in his career that stands out for very different reasons. Back in 1995, DiCaprio starred in Total Eclipse, where he played the poet Arthur Rimbaud.
The role was bold and very different from what audiences expected at the time. Years later, DiCaprio himself admitted that the film did not land well. “People hated it,” he said, reflecting on how difficult it was for audiences to connect with the movie.
He also explained that much of the attention around the film focused on one specific intimate scene with co-star David Thewlis. That moment ended up overshadowing the rest of the story.
DiCaprio found it frustrating that people did not look beyond that. He later added, “I think the only people who liked Total Eclipse were people who liked Rimbaud,” and even then, many fans of the poet were not fully satisfied with the film.
Now, DiCaprio is once again focused on a new project. As of March, he is filming in the Czech Republic for a movie called What Happens at Night. The film is directed by Martin Scorsese and is based on a novel by Peter Cameron.
It tells the story of a couple traveling to a snowy European town to adopt a child, only to end up stuck in a strange and unsettling hotel. The movie also stars Jennifer Lawrence, marking another collaboration between the two after Don’t Look Up.
The cast includes Mads Mikkelsen, Patricia Clarkson, and Jared Harris, and the movie is already being talked about as one of the big releases to watch in 2027. Even with one or two missteps in his past, DiCaprio continues to stay at the center of major film conversations. His career shows that taking risks does not always guarantee success, but it keeps things interesting.
