Tiffany Boone Talks About the Possibility of ‘The Lion Queen’: “Who would say no to that?”
Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King gave fans a closer look at Mufasa’s early years, his journey to Pride Rock, and his first meeting with Sarabi. Actress Tiffany Boone, who voiced Sarabi, brought new depth to the character and helped fans see a different side of her before she became queen. Now, after the film’s release, there’s growing interest in a sequel focused on Sarabi—one that could be called The Lion Queen.
Boone is thrilled by the idea of a movie that would explore Sarabi’s journey to becoming queen and show more of her life between Mufasa: The Lion King and the original The Lion King. When asked if she would be interested in returning for another film, she responded enthusiastically:
“Oh, I mean, of course, I would be up for that. Who would say no to that?”
She believes there’s plenty of stories left to tell about Sarabi’s growth and how she adjusted to her new life at Pride Rock.
“There’s always opportunity to, as we were saying, like The Lion King 1.5. Like The Lion Queen, what happens in between when this film ends and when the original starts?” Boone said. “To see how she becomes a Queen, how these people who all of a sudden are in this new land, how do they adapt to it? And how does she become the wise Queen that she becomes?”
In Mufasa: The Lion King, audiences saw a younger, more playful Sarabi, a version of the character that had never been explored before. Boone enjoyed showing new sides of Sarabi, giving her more personality beyond just being a mother and a queen.
“You don’t get to really know any of her story,” Boone explained. “So in this version, I just wanted to see and hopefully create a more complicated version of her. You get to see her be sassy and fun and fall in love—all these things that you go through as a young woman to become who you’re going to become.”
If The Lion Queen were to happen, it could fill in the gaps between Sarabi’s youth and her reign as queen, showing how she grew into the wise and respected leader seen in The Lion King. Fans would get a deeper look at how she navigated challenges, helped shape Pride Rock, and dealt with Scar’s rise to power.
For now, there’s no official word on whether The Lion Queen will become a reality, but Boone is more than ready to continue Sarabi’s story.
