Timothée Chalamet Shares the Most Disgusting Experience From Shooting Interstellar
Timothée Chalamet shared a hilarious behind-the-scenes story from his time on Christopher Nolan’s 2014 sci-fi hit, Interstellar. Speaking at a town hall at the University of Texas at Austin, the Dune star recalled a gross prank involving his co-star Matthew McConaughey.
Chalamet, who was only 17 during filming, explained that on his last day on set, he returned to his trailer to find an unwelcome surprise in the bathroom. “I gotta say, my last day on Interstellar, I was sad to be leaving,” he told the audience.
That sadness quickly disappeared when he discovered a large deposit in his toilet. Initially, he wondered if one of the crew had done it, asking the grips on set, but everyone denied it. It wasn’t until Chalamet spoke to director Christopher Nolan that the mystery was solved.
Nolan silently pointed to McConaughey, who apparently had left the “souvenir” as a prank. The actor, now 56, greeted the accusation with a mischievous smirk. When Chalamet asked why, McConaughey joked, “In Texas, it’s a coming of age, baby,” turning the prank into a supposed rite of passage for his onscreen son.
Looking back now, Chalamet, 30, can laugh at the story and calls it a true memory from the set. The two actors have maintained a close relationship since filming, with Chalamet still referring to McConaughey as his “movie dad.” The prank has since become legendary among Interstellar fans and crew alike.
Outside of this story, Chalamet is one of the busiest actors in Hollywood. He recently celebrated the success of Marty Supreme, a Josh Safdie-directed sports drama where he plays a 1950s ping-pong hustler. The film has received strong reviews and awards buzz, featuring a diverse cast including Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler, the Creator, and Kevin O’Leary.
Chalamet is also gearing up for Dune: Part Three, scheduled for release on December 18, and is rumored to be in talks for a high-energy heist film directed by James Mangold, who worked with him on the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown.
Matthew McConaughey remains busy as well. He recently starred in The Lost Bus, a drama about the 2018 California wildfires, and is reportedly finalizing a deal with Netflix for a new series created by True Detective mastermind Nic Pizzolatto. The Interstellar prank shows that even Hollywood stars have a funny, human side, and it’s a story fans will likely remember for years.
