Tom Cruise Looks Completely Unrecognizable in First Look at ‘Digger’ Transformation
Tom Cruise is known around the world for his action-packed performances and unbelievable stunts, but his next movie could show a completely different side of the Hollywood star. The first official look at ‘Digger’ has arrived, revealing Cruise in a surprising new transformation that has already caught the attention of fans.
The upcoming film from Oscar-winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu gives Cruise a role unlike anything he has played in recent years. Instead of another action hero, Cruise becomes Digger Rockwell, a wealthy and controversial oil tycoon whose appearance and personality are expected to push the actor into much darker and stranger territory.
Warner Bros. revealed the first glimpse of Cruise’s character following a career retrospective shown at CinemaCon. The footage celebrated some of the actor’s biggest performances before ending with a brief look at his dramatic makeover for ‘Digger’.
In the preview, Cruise appears almost completely hidden behind the character’s elderly and unusual appearance. While only small parts of the transformation were shown, the footage was enough to make fans curious about the actor’s unexpected new role.
The full trailer for ‘Digger’ is expected to reveal much more about Cruise’s performance. The story follows Digger Rockwell as he faces the consequences of a global disaster connected to his own actions, forcing the powerful businessman to confront the damage he has caused.
Although Cruise is mostly recognized as an action star thanks to franchises like ‘Mission: Impossible’, the actor has regularly shown that he enjoys taking on unusual characters. One of his most memorable comedy roles came in ‘Tropic Thunder’, where he played the loud and unpredictable studio executive Les Grossman.
‘Digger’ appears to continue that trend by allowing Cruise to step away from his usual heroic image. The role could become one of the most dramatic and surprising performances of his career, especially with Iñárritu behind the camera.
Iñárritu has a strong history with awards success, having won Best Picture and earning back-to-back Best Director wins at the Academy Awards. Because of his reputation, ‘Digger’ is already being viewed as a potential awards contender, with some predicting that Cruise could receive another Oscar nomination for his performance.
The film also adds to Warner Bros.’ recent focus on original movies led by major filmmakers and actors rather than relying only on existing franchises. The studio has found success with projects built around strong creative teams, showing interest in giving directors more room to tell unique stories.
Alongside Cruise, ‘Digger’ features an impressive supporting cast that includes Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Jesse Plemons. The movie was filmed entirely in VistaVision, a large-format process known for creating a more detailed cinematic image.
Iñárritu directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolás Giacobone, and Sabina Berman. The movie is produced by Iñárritu, Mary Parent, Tom Cruise, and Michael Sharp.
With its unusual story, talented cast, and Cruise taking on a role far removed from his typical characters, ‘Digger’ is shaping up to be one of the most interesting projects of the actor’s career. Fans will get a closer look at Cruise’s dramatic transformation when the first full trailer arrives.
