Few mystery series are willing to blend dark humor, small-town secrets and Slavic folklore the way ‘Yaga‘ does. The Crave original reimagines the myth of Baba Yaga as a half-hour whodunit, with a missing heir, a dead roommate and a symbol that keeps turning up where it shouldn’t. The series was created by Kat Sandler, who adapted it from her own story.

The case at the center of the show is a tangled one. Private investigator Charlie Rapp, played by Noah Reid, and detective Carson, played by Clark Backo, have been trying to find Henry Park, the missing heir played by Hudson Williams, while also dealing with the death of his roommate Logan. By the time the latest chapter begins, suspects are piling up and the clues are getting stranger.

That brings us to this week’s installment, which delivers one of the series’ most unsettling endings yet. As Rapp presses an elderly woman about what Henry was after, she kisses his hand, whispers ‘Baba Yaga’ and seemingly dies as her monitors crash. Here is a full recap, plus what that final moment may mean.

Pam Breaks Under Questioning

The episode opens with a daydream in which Rapp watches a young woman follow the recipe for the secret drug potion, only for her shirt to open and reveal the Celtic symbol and her mask to come off, revealing Pam. In reality, Pam is waiting to be questioned on the other side of the one-way mirror. Carson opens by borrowing Rapp’s coffee trick and then goes after Pam’s relationships.

Pam says she was adopted, dated Logan as teenagers and later started dating Henry, who charmed them both. She explains that Logan became obsessed with Henry and changed his whole look to copy him. When Carson bluffs that she has a tape of Pam with both men, Pam confesses to a threesome, and a flashback shows Henry kissing her before watching from a chair. She says Henry enjoyed the power of it, as though he were watching a movie of himself.

Carson calls Pam weak and treats her as a suspect, but Pam names Hunter Nielson as her alibi and realizes the tapes were a bluff.

The Triskele and the Mysterious Tonic

Carson leans toward Henry as the killer, while Rapp believes the cult behind the symbol is the better lead. A source named Angel identifies the mark as a triskele, tied to the idea of mother, maiden and crone. She says an older woman named Laney marks her pottery with it and uses an orange powder called villy in rituals known as sabbats.

Angel describes villy as an ethical organic dissociative tonic and says the name means cure in Ukrainian. She also explains a ritual of leaving a gift for the goddess and drawing a triskele near the bed, which matches what Rapp found in Henry’s room. Both Henry and Logan, she adds, attended the gatherings in the woods.

Inside Laney’s House

Rapp and Carson track down Laney’s address and break in when no one answers, but someone slips out the back door and escapes in a car. They learn of a recent 911 call from the house that leads to Olena Yaha, who has dementia and was taken to the ER after a fall. In the greenhouse, they find more pottery, photos of Laney and a journal written in Ukrainian.

The journal contains a crude drawing of Henry wearing a flower crown and holding a chicken. At the hospital, Olena calls Rapp ‘Ivan’ and notices the triskele on a piece of her own pottery, saying there must always be three. When he shows her Henry’s photo, she reacts angrily, calls him a bad dog and mutters that he wanted villy and had his teeth knocked out with a hammer.

The Ending Explained

While Rapp questions Olena, Carson receives a video that was posted to Henry’s account. It follows a blood trail through Logan’s window to his body, then turns the phone toward a mirror, switches on a lamp and reveals the same mask from Rapp’s daydream. Henry also makes his on-screen debut in a flashback, though he has no dialogue.

Back at the hospital, Rapp demands to know who the devil is that Henry danced with. Olena says Henry wanted to dance with the devil like her, and by devil she means Baba Yaga. One reading is that Henry wanted to become as powerful as the legend and it backfired, or that he crossed the wrong witch.

As for whether Olena is truly dead, the scene only suggests it. Her monitors crash after she whispers the name, but the show has not explicitly confirmed her fate.

What Comes Next

The season has 8 episodes in total, with weekly releases on Fridays and a two-part finale on November 27. The cast also includes Carrie-Anne Moss, Sheila McCarthy, Megan Follows, Ezra Franky and Patrick Gilmore. With the video, the journal and the symbol all pointing in different directions, the investigation is far from over.

Do you think Olena really died after whispering Baba Yaga's name in ‘Yaga’ Episode 4?
