Tom Hank’s Son, Chet Hanks, Ditches Hollywood for Trailer Park Life in Nashville — Here’s Why
Chet Hanks is currently living in a trailer park in Nashville, but the reason behind it is much simpler than people might expect.
The 35-year-old, who is the son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, spoke about his living situation during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He explained that the move was connected to his focus on music. He is currently based in Nashville while working on his country project with his band Something Out West.
Instead of renting a place, Chet decided to stay in a Jayco Eagle RV. He said he didn’t want to go through the process of setting up another home after already buying and furnishing a condo in Los Angeles. “I didn’t want to get an apartment because I literally just got a condo in L.A. and I furnished it,” he said. “I didn’t want to do that again, and I didn’t want to furnish it.”
Before settling into the trailer, he tried staying in rentals and hotels, but he said that situation didn’t last long. It became tiring, and he started looking for something more comfortable and personal. After spending time in an Airstream during a trip, he realized that kind of setup worked for him. “It had everything you need,” he explained.
Chet also said he enjoys the independence that comes with living in an RV. “I just like having my own space,” he said, adding that having a kitchen and a proper shower made a big difference.
He also talked about the people around him. According to him, the trailer park is mostly filled with older residents, and he is one of the youngest there. Still, he had only good things to say about the community. “It’s all just retirees,” he said, describing them as “great people.”
The move seems to be working out so far. Chet recently performed at the Stagecoach Festival, which marked only his second live show with the band. He admitted he was nervous but said the moment meant a lot to him. His father was also there in the crowd supporting him.
For now, Chet’s focus is on building his music career, and living in a trailer park in Nashville is simply part of that journey.
