Tom Hiddleston Hypes ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ — Calls It “Extraordinary”
Tom Hiddleston has been careful with his words throughout the entire buildup to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, but his latest comments on the film are the most enthusiastic yet. Hiddleston told fans that the film is going to be “magnificent” and will defy all expectations, adding that it defied his own when he first read the script.
The quote tracks with everything Hiddleston has been saying about the film for months now. Speaking to Deadline, Hiddleston described the film as “monumental,” adding, “The center of the story is absolutely brilliant, and was so surprising when I read it. It just has never been done before.” That is quite a statement from someone who has been part of the MCU for well over a decade and has seen the franchise operate at its highest levels.
Hiddleston has played Loki since his debut in ‘Thor’ in 2011, and his history with the character spans every phase of the MCU, making him one of only two actors, alongside Sebastian Stan, to have appeared across all six phases of the franchise. At the end of ‘Loki’ Season 2, the character transformed into the God of Stories and took on the responsibility of holding the branching timelines of the Multiverse together, a role that makes him a natural target for the villainous Doctor Doom in ‘Doomsday’.
Hiddleston has also teased that his portrayal of Loki in the new film will feel different, saying in an interview with Men’s Health that the version of the character audiences will see is “new in his own way.” Given everything Loki went through in the Disney Plus series, that evolution is something many fans have been eager to see play out on the big screen.
The film’s enormous ensemble has given Hiddleston what he described as several genuine “pinch me” moments on set, particularly when crossing paths with recently confirmed X-Men cast members including Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen during production. A reunion between Loki and Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, is also confirmed, bringing the two brothers back together on screen for the first time since ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens in theaters on December 18, 2026, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, with Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU as the villainous Doctor Doom. If Hiddleston’s reaction to the script is anything to go by, the film is shaping up to be exactly the kind of event Marvel audiences have been waiting for since ‘Endgame’.
