Tom Hiddleston Opens Up on Keeping Secrets for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Compared to Past Marvel Films
Tom Hiddleston has opened up about what it is like keeping secrets for Avengers: Doomsday and how the experience compares to previous Marvel Studios films he has worked on.
The actor, best known for playing Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, spoke about the subject in a recent interview with ScreenRant.
Hiddleston admitted that the secrecy around the film has been intense, but also slightly easier this time around. He explained that part of the relief came from finally being able to acknowledge his involvement in the project. He said, “I was just so relieved when I saw my name on a back of a chair … This has been a little gentler, because I can say that I’m in it.”
While he cannot reveal major plot details, Hiddleston still gave a positive reaction to the script. He previously praised the direction of the film and suggested it will be a major entry in the franchise.
He said, “Avengers: Doomsday is going to be magnificent and will defy all your expectations.” He added that the script itself surprised him when he first read it, saying, “It defied mine when I read the film. I thought, ‘This is going to be extraordinary.’”
Avengers: Doomsday is set to bring back several major characters from across the Marvel universe. One of the most notable returns is expected to be Loki, who will once again appear alongside the Avengers, including his brother Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth. This marks their first major reunion in several years within the main MCU storyline.
Hiddleston’s return as Loki has drawn attention because of the character’s long and complicated history. Loki began as one of the Avengers’ earliest villains, often clashing with Earth’s heroes and especially Thor. Over time, the character evolved into a more complex figure, especially through the Loki Disney+ series, which explored themes of identity, free will, and redemption.
The series gave Loki a more complete emotional arc and a sense of closure that many fans believed was final. However, his return in Avengers: Doomsday raises questions about how the character will fit into the larger multiverse storyline and whether his development will continue or be challenged again.
The film itself is being positioned as one of the biggest crossover events in MCU history. It is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with a screenplay by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. The story is expected to bring together multiple groups, including the Avengers, Wakandans, New Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men characters from different universes.
Robert Downey Jr. is set to appear in a new role as Doctor Doom, marking a major shift for the actor within the franchise. The film is part of Marvel’s Phase Six and continues the multiverse storyline that connects several recent projects.
Production on Avengers: Doomsday took place in 2025 at Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom, along with additional filming in Bahrain and other locations. The movie is currently scheduled for release in December.
With Hiddleston hinting at a strong script and a major emotional return for Loki, expectations for the film continue to grow. His comments suggest that even longtime Marvel actors were surprised by the direction of the story, keeping anticipation high ahead of its release.
