‘Apex’ Star Charlize Theron Breaks Silence on ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Rumors and ‘Atomic Blonde 2’ Plans
Charlize Theron has spoken about her future in major action franchises, including Marvel’s upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” and the long-discussed sequel to “Atomic Blonde.”
In a new interview with Elle for its Summer 2026 cover story, the Oscar-winning actress discussed several parts of her career, including her role as Calypso in “The Odyssey,” her production work, and her return to big action projects. The conversation also touched on speculation about her Marvel role and whether fans can expect her to return as Lorraine Broughton in “Atomic Blonde 2.”
Theron currently appears in the Marvel universe as Clea Strange, but when asked directly about fan rumors linking her to “Avengers: Doomsday,” she gave a short and cautious answer. “Not the person to ask.” The response did not confirm or deny anything, but it left her future in the next major Avengers chapter unclear.
The actress first appeared in the Marvel universe in a post-credits scene, opening the door for a larger role in the expanding storyline around Doctor Strange. However, Marvel has not officially announced her involvement in the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” film, and Theron’s latest comments suggest nothing is confirmed from her side.
She also addressed the long-running question about a sequel to her 2017 action film “Atomic Blonde.” Fans have been waiting for updates on “Atomic Blonde 2” for years, but Theron made it sound unlikely at this point. “I think we might’ve passed the moment.” That line suggests the project is not currently active and may no longer be moving forward in the way fans once expected.

“Atomic Blonde” became a cult action hit thanks to its stylized fight scenes and Theron’s performance as an MI6 agent in Cold War-era Berlin. Despite strong fan interest in a sequel, there has been little official progress in recent years.
Even though both updates were brief, they give a clearer picture of where things stand. Her Marvel future remains open but unconfirmed, while “Atomic Blonde 2” appears to be on hold with no clear path forward.
For now, Theron continues to balance new projects, including “The Odyssey,” while keeping her future in major franchise roles uncertain.
