Tom Holland’s Cryptic Answer About ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Isn’t Ruling Anything Out

Peter Parker’s next chapter has always felt tied to the bigger picture of where Marvel’s multiverse story is headed, and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ spent its entire runtime building toward exactly that kind of larger question. With the film now dominating theaters, attention has quickly shifted from what just happened to what comes next.

That shift became unavoidable once the credits rolled. The film’s final scene shows Ned’s Spidey-tracking app zooming out past Earth entirely, following Spider-Man’s location into deep space before the screen simply announces that Spider-Man will return, offering no clarity on when or how that return might actually happen.

That ambiguity has followed Tom Holland directly into his press rounds. Speaking with BBC News about whether he’ll return as Spider-Man in ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ Holland offered a characteristically evasive response, saying, “You’re going to have to watch this movie, and that might answer your question… I can’t answer those questions.”

The uncertainty isn’t just marketing spin, either. As of now, Holland isn’t on the official call sheet for ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ a sprawling ensemble film that brings together major players from the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men and Thunderbolts corners of the MCU, but notably lacks any confirmed Spider-Man presence.

That absence has fueled speculation about exactly where Peter Parker fits into Marvel’s next two crossover events. With ‘Doomsday’ currently in the can and locked for its December release, some reports have pointed instead toward ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ as the more likely landing spot for Holland’s next appearance, given that film still hasn’t begun production.

Holland himself has leaned into the mystery surrounding ‘Secret Wars’ specifically, admitting he has no real idea what the film is actually about and joking that he doesn’t even know how the iconic black symbiote suit would logistically work if it ends up being part of the story. He’s suggested Marvel deliberately keeps him in the dark on plot details specifically to prevent him from accidentally spoiling things during press tours, a reputation he’s openly acknowledged before.

That secrecy extends to other major reveals he’s had to sit on recently, too. Holland has previously described keeping Robert Downey Jr.’s surprise return as Doctor Doom under wraps as a genuinely difficult secret to hold onto, given how much he’s talked about wanting to avoid ruining anything for fans through his own press appearances.

If Holland’s Spider-Man does end up appearing in ‘Secret Wars’ rather than ‘Doomsday,’ the storyline possibilities multiply considerably. The comic arc the film is expected to loosely draw from involves the Avengers being pulled into a patchwork reality called Battleworld, a concept that could theoretically open the door for crossovers with previous Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, both of whom already crossed timelines once before in ‘No Way Home.’

For now, fans are left parsing every carefully worded non-answer Holland gives for hints about what’s coming. Between the film’s own post-credits tease and Holland’s deliberately vague responses to reporters, one thing seems clear: Spider-Man’s next move is very much still being kept under wraps, whether that’s in ‘Doomsday,’ ‘Secret Wars,’ or somewhere else entirely.
