Tom Holland’s Pulling Power for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Is Putting Other MCU Leads to Shame
Superhero franchises love to talk about ensemble strength, but every so often the numbers make it painfully clear that one actor is carrying more weight than the rest of the cast combined. That conversation has been building around Tom Holland for years, but this week gave it some genuinely hard data to back it up.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has spent its opening days rewriting box office history, and as the numbers keep climbing, attention has started shifting toward exactly why audiences are showing up in such record-breaking force. The answers, it turns out, trace back almost entirely to Holland himself.
According to PostTrak exit polling reported by Deadline, 39% of ticket buyers named Tom Holland as a main reason for seeing ‘Brand New Day,’ a figure that ranks among the highest ever recorded for a lead actor in a comic book movie. Zendaya followed at 29%, itself an impressive number for someone in a supporting role.
Those individual draws sit alongside broader motivations cited by moviegoers. Of those surveyed, 58% said the film was part of a franchise they love, 47% said it simply looked fun and entertaining, and 41% cited the cast as a whole as their reason for buying a ticket, painting a picture of an audience drawn in by both the character’s legacy and the specific people playing him.
Holland’s individual pull becomes even more notable when compared against the film’s other stars. With no comparable figures currently available for Mark Ruffalo or Jon Bernthal’s draw power, Holland and Zendaya’s numbers stand out as the clearest measurable proof of star power driving ticket sales for this particular release.
The broader exit poll data backs up just how well the film is landing with the people actually watching it. PostTrak recorded an 88% definite recommend score, close behind ‘No Way Home’s’ 90%, while the film earned its fourth A CinemaScore among Holland’s Spider-Man films, trailing only ‘No Way Home’s’ A+.
Demographic breakdowns show the film skewing slightly older than its predecessor, with the 18-24 age bracket making up 36% of the audience compared to 42% for ‘No Way Home,’ alongside a 61% to 39% male-to-female split. Family-friendly appeal has also played a role in the film’s performance, with PLF screens accounting for 24% of the weekend’s gross and 3D contributing another 17%, despite the film not having access to IMAX due to ‘The Odyssey’s’ continued exclusive run in that format.

That opening has already made history on its own terms, with ‘Brand New Day’ pulling in a domestic total that’s stratospherically above ‘No Way Home’s’ $260.1 million debut, marking a record start for both director Destin Daniel Cretton and Zendaya, and the second-best opening of Holland’s career behind only his appearance in ‘Avengers: Endgame.’
For a franchise entering its eleventh live-action film, having its lead actor pull in numbers this strong speaks to just how central Holland has become to the character’s continued box office dominance. Whatever comes next for Peter Parker, this weekend made one thing abundantly clear: audiences are showing up specifically for him.
