Toni Braxton (58) Unable To Finish Performance After Sudden Personal Emergency
Toni Braxton had to leave her Minneapolis show early, leaving fans concerned. The 58-year-old R&B icon was performing as a special guest on the New Edition Way Tour with Boyz II Men at the Target Center on Sunday, March 22.
Usually known for delivering a high-energy nine-song set, Braxton had to step away before the performance ended. She took to Instagram the next day to explain the situation to her fans.
“My loves, I am so sorry I wasn’t able to finish the show last night. I had an unexpected personal emergency and had no choice but to step away,” she wrote. She added, “You deserved my everything, and I hate that I couldn’t give it to you. I feel your love from here. Thank you for understanding.”

The singer has not shared details about the emergency, but her fans know she has dealt with serious health challenges over the years. Braxton was diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus in 2008 and has had multiple health scares, including major heart surgery in 2022.
She has spoken in the past about the pressures of performing while managing a chronic condition. “I just try to pace it. Pacing is very important, and if I feel like I’m overdoing it, I know to take a break,” she said during her 2024 Las Vegas residency.
Braxton’s career remains active despite these challenges. She recently starred in the Lifetime original movie Toni Braxton’s Breathe Again, which premiered in January. This is the second film in a partnership with the network and focuses on three women navigating life after a reality show heartbreak.
Braxton also serves as an executive producer, drawing inspiration from her music catalog. On the personal front, Braxton’s relationship with rapper Birdman has attracted media attention. Reports suggested the pair secretly married in August 2024, briefly filed for divorce, and then withdrew it.
They remain legally married and continue to support each other’s creative projects. Fans are hopeful Braxton will return for the rest of the New Edition Way Tour once her personal situation is resolved.
For now, the focus is on her recovery and well-being. Her brief early exit serves as a reminder of the physical and emotional challenges artists face on the road, even for legends like Toni Braxton.
