Jim Carrey recently surprised fans with a very different look during a rare public appearance in France. The 64-year-old comedy star attended the César Film Awards in Paris on February 26, where his transformed face quickly sparked speculation online.

Many assumed drastic cosmetic surgery, but a leading plastic surgeon tells a different story. Dr. Raffi Hovsepian analyzed photos from the event and noted that Carrey’s forehead and brow look consistent with normal male aging.

“These areas appear natural and show no signs of surgical intervention,” he said. The doctor did notice some fullness in the midface and cheeks, which could be the result of mild hyaluronic acid fillers or temporary swelling from volumizing treatments.

“The softening along the jawline and mild hollowing around the eyes are also normal markers of aging,” Dr. Hovsepian added. He emphasized that if any work was done, it was subtle, leaving Carrey’s face moving naturally and retaining his unique look.

Carrey’s appearance in Paris was especially notable since he has largely stepped back from Hollywood over the last few years. He returned to the screen with the Sonic the Hedgehog films, playing Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik, a role he reprised in the 2024 release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. He even plays Robotnik’s grandfather, Professor Gerald Robotnik, in a dual performance.

At the César Awards, Carrey was honored with a special lifetime achievement award, recognizing his decades-long contributions to film. In a heartfelt moment, he delivered his acceptance speech entirely in French. “Each character you play is like clay in the sculptor’s hands, which you shape to your heart’s desire,” he said, expressing gratitude to the host country.

Carrey also thanked his family during the ceremony, including his daughter Jane and grandson Jackson, and paid tribute to his late father, Percy Joseph Carrey, calling him “the funniest man I had ever known.”

Beyond acting, Carrey has been focusing on personal passions like painting and political cartooning. He has hinted that he might retire permanently, but remains open to projects that truly excite him. “I would return for a script written in gold ink that felt meaningful,” he joked in a previous interview.

Despite rumors about his appearance, experts insist that Carrey’s changes are mostly age-related, possibly enhanced by minor cosmetic treatments. Fans can continue to see him in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, but as of now, no other major film projects are confirmed, as he enjoys a quieter life away from the constant pressures of Hollywood.
