Trump Celebrates Colbert’s CBS Exit After Final ‘The Late Show’ Episode, Calls Him a “Total Jerk”
Donald Trump reacted strongly after Stephen Colbert’s final episode of The Late Show aired on CBS. The reaction came shortly after the long-running late-night program ended its run.
In a post made on Truth Social at 1:52 a.m. ET, Trump criticized Colbert in very direct terms. He wrote, “Colbert is finally finished at CBS. Amazing that he lasted so long! No talent, no ratings, no life. He was like a dead person. You could take any person off of the street and they would be better than this total jerk. Thank goodness he’s finally gone!”

The comments came after CBS had already announced that The Late Show would be canceled. At the time, Trump also reacted by saying he was happy about the decision and claimed Colbert had been fired.
Colbert, during his time on the show, often mocked Trump. After CBS announced the cancellation, Colbert responded on air with a clear insult aimed at the president, saying, “Go fuck yourself” with the profanity censored during broadcast.

The final episode of The Late Show, which aired on May 21, included several well-known guests. The send-off featured appearances from Paul McCartney, Bryan Cranston, Paul Rudd, Ryan Reynolds, Tim Meadows, and Tig Notaro. McCartney also took part in a prerecorded comedy bit that ended with the symbolic shutdown of the Ed Sullivan Theater, marking the end of the show after 11 seasons.
CBS has said the cancellation was purely a financial decision, pointing to the declining economics of late-night television. However, others have questioned that explanation and suggested that politics may have played a role, given Colbert’s frequent criticism of Trump.
Trump has also criticized other late-night hosts, including Jimmy Kimmel. In one case, after a joke about the First Lady on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Trump called for action against the show, and regulatory scrutiny of Disney and ABC followed soon after, according to the same reporting.
