Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show has been pulled from ABC, and it’s unclear when, or if, it will return. The network’s decision came after Nexstar Media Group, which owns 32 ABC affiliates, said it would stop airing the program.

Nexstar’s choice followed remarks Kimmel made about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Kirk was shot on September 10 during a debate at Utah Valley University. Police arrested a suspect three days later. Kimmel addressed the tragedy during his monologue, accusing conservatives of using the murder for political purposes.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them,” he told viewers. He also mocked Donald Trump’s response to the news, after the former president drifted into a story about a White House ballroom.

Nexstar said in a statement that it “strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”

Trump quickly praised ABC for pulling the show. Writing on his social media platform, he posted: “Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done.”

He continued by attacking other late-night hosts: “Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible. That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT.”

The White House amplified his message by sharing a screenshot of the post on its official X account.

ABC has not formally announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live! is canceled, only saying the program has been taken off the air indefinitely. The move followed reports that multiple ABC affiliates run by Nexstar were refusing to broadcast the show.

Trump’s FCC Chairman Brendan Carr also backed the decision, posting on X: “I want to thank Nexstar for doing the right thing. Local broadcasters have an obligation to serve the public interest. While this may be an unprecedented decision, it is important for broadcasters to push back on Disney programming that they determine falls short of community.”

This is not the first time Trump has celebrated the downfall of a late-night host. When CBS dropped The Late Show with Stephen Colbert earlier this year, Trump cheered online and suggested Jimmy Kimmel would be the next one gone. “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show,” Trump wrote at the time.

Now, with ABC’s move against Kimmel, Trump has turned his focus toward Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon, urging NBC to get rid of them too.
