Hogwarts fever is about to hit a new high. HBO’s new television adaptation lands at Christmas, and the Wizarding World is gearing up for another wave of fan frenzy. Publishers are clearly not letting the moment pass.

Bloomsbury has been quietly building a collection of pocket-sized character guides called ‘Pocket Potters’. Each one is an illustrated mini-book packed with story moments, quotes and facts about a single character from the Harry Potter stories. The series launched in August 2025 with guides to Harry, Ron and Hermione.

Now there are two new books on the way. Bloomsbury has confirmed that the next entries focus on Professor Minerva McGonagall and the Weasley twins, Fred and George. Both are set to publish in the UK on February 23, and pre-orders are already open.

‘Pocket Potters: Professor McGonagall‘ is illustrated by Natalie Smillie. It examines the formidable Transfiguration teacher and Gryffindor head, with answers to some long-standing questions. The publisher teases why she buys Harry his first broomstick, which animal she can turn into and what a ‘Hatstall’ is.

‘Pocket Potters: Fred and George Weasley’ is illustrated by Helen Brady. It follows the twins’ years at Hogwarts, including their uncanny knowledge of the school’s secret passages and their prank inventions such as Canary Creams. The book also traces how their mischief eventually led them to leave school and open Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes in Diagon Alley.

Bloomsbury also promises plenty to reward longtime readers. The pages are packed with hidden details meant to bring back the moment the magic began. It’s the kind of design that works for new readers and nostalgic adults alike.

Like the rest of the series, both books are 32-page hardbacks. In the UK, the standard price is listed at £10, with a lower pre-order price of £7 at the time of the announcement. That puts the price at roughly 10 euros for readers elsewhere in Europe.

They are aimed mainly at younger readers, but the collectible format has clear appeal for older fans. Anyone raising a new generation of Potter enthusiasts is likely to pick them up. They also make easy stocking fillers.

The new titles join an expanding lineup. Dumbledore and Luna Lovegood followed the original trio in February this year, and guides to Hagrid and Dobby were slated for August. With McGonagall and the twins added, the series now covers most of the central Hogwarts cast.

The timing is hardly an accident. The new guides arrive about two months after HBO’s ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ premieres, which means viewers will be meeting a new McGonagall and new Weasley twins just before the books land. Reports say Janet McTeer plays McGonagall, while real-life brothers Tristan and Gabriel Harland play the twins.

HBO’s first season runs 8 episodes and is set to debut at Christmas, with a new cast led by Dominic McLaughlin as Harry. The network has already renewed the show for a second season. Each season is meant to cover one book, giving the story far more room than the films had.

That slower pace could make secondary characters like McGonagall and the twins matter more to casual viewers. A companion book that explains their quirks, backstories and favorite tricks fits neatly into that curiosity. It’s smart publishing in an era when franchises thrive on interlocking releases.

Pre-orders are the easiest way to secure a copy, particularly if you collect the full set. The earlier guides have been published in dozens of languages, so editions should be widely available. And if you’re still waiting on the TV series, these books are a charming way to stay in the Wizarding World.

Whether you’re a lifelong reader or just starting your own Hogwarts journey, the new guides offer a gentle way back into the castle. McGonagall and the twins are two of the most beloved characters in the saga, and they’ve earned their spotlight.

Which of the upcoming Pocket Potters guides would you most want to read?
