Uma Thurman is best known for intense roles and action-heavy performances, especially her work with Quentin Tarantino in the Kill Bill films. Over the years, she has taken on many different characters, from comic book villains to dark, dramatic roles. But when it comes to movies she loves as a viewer, her taste goes in a very different direction.

In the book You Gotta See This, which collects favorite films from well-known actors and filmmakers, Thurman talked about the stars who inspired her long before she became famous. According to the book, she shared a deep admiration for Meryl Streep and said she spent many years hoping they would work together one day.

That wish came true in 2005, when they both appeared in the film Prime. Thurman has spoken about that project as a personal highlight, since acting alongside Streep meant a great deal to her after years of admiration.

Thurman also spoke about another screen legend who left a big mark on her. She said she has always loved Doris Day, the classic Hollywood actress and singer who was especially popular in the 1950s and 1960s. While Thurman joked in the book that she could never be Doris Day herself, she said she gets real joy from watching her films.

When asked to name her favorite movie of all time, Thurman pointed to Pillow Talk from 1959. The romantic comedy stars Doris Day and Rock Hudson and is built around a shared telephone party line that leads to misunderstandings and romance. Thurman highlighted the famous bathtub scene and described the film as an easy and fun watch that never gets old.

In the movie, Day plays Jan Morrow, an interior designer, and Brad Allen, a composer who constantly annoys her. Things change when Brad pretends to be a Texas rancher and starts courting Jan under a fake identity. The story is light, playful, and very different from the serious roles Thurman is usually known for.

That contrast may be part of why the film means so much to her. While her own career often leans toward darker and more physical roles, Pillow Talk represents a softer and more relaxed side of classic cinema.

Today, Thurman is enjoying a strong return to high-profile projects. According to streaming reports, she recently appeared alongside Charlize Theron in The Old Guard 2 on Netflix, playing a powerful immortal villain named Discord. The role marked her return to action-heavy work for the first time in many years.

She is also part of the voice cast for the animated film The King of Kings, where she plays Catherine Dickens, alongside actors like Kenneth Branagh and Oscar Isaac. On television, she is set to appear in Dexter Resurrection, taking on a recurring role as the head of security for a tech billionaire.

From classic romantic comedies to modern action films, Uma Thurman continues to show her range. Even after decades in the spotlight, she remains inspired by the stars she grew up watching and the movies that first made her fall in love with film.
