Vampire Diaries Star End Five-Year Relationship & Engagement

Shaun White and Nina Dobrev have ended their engagement and gone their separate ways after five years together, PEOPLE reports. A source close to the couple described the decision as mutual, saying, “It was a mutual decision, and wasn’t an easy one, but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another.”

Representatives for both White and Dobrev did not respond to requests for comment.

The couple was last seen together on August 31, 2025, in Los Angeles, holding hands while running errands. By September 7, Dobrev appeared at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival’s Eternity premiere without her five-carat engagement ring. She also removed her engagement post from Instagram, which had been at the top of her profile since White proposed in October 2024.

White and Dobrev first crossed paths at an awards show in 2012 but didn’t really connect until 2019 when they were both speakers at an event in Florida organized by Tony Robbins. White said in 2022, “I actually didn’t know anything about [Dobrev] at the time. But it was actually really funny seeing everyone want a photo with her. I was like, ‘What’s happening? What’s going on?'”

Throughout their relationship, White and Dobrev were often seen on red carpets and shared glimpses of their life together on social media, including vacations and festival outings. In 2022, Dobrev was by White’s side as he competed in his fifth and final Winter Olympics in Beijing, an experience he described as “emotional” and “overwhelming.”

White proposed to Dobrev in October 2024 at The Golden Swan in New York City, initially telling her they were attending a CFDA/Vogue event hosted by Anna Wintour. He surprised her with a five-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond ring. At the time, White shared the moment on Instagram, writing, “She said YES 💍♾️.” Dobrev also celebrated the engagement online, captioning her post, “RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé.”

The end of this five-year relationship marks a new chapter for both the athlete and the actress.
