Vin Diesel Talks Saying Farewell To Fast & Furious and the Pressure of the Last Movie
Vin Diesel has been reflecting on the incredible journey of the Fast and Furious franchise as it nears its final chapter. On March 21, the actor shared a heartfelt message on Instagram about the responsibility he feels to give fans a proper ending.
The saga, which began in 2001, has grown into a cultural phenomenon thanks to the dedication of countless cast, crew, writers, and directors. Diesel wrote, “25 years. Eight directors.
Countless writers, crew members, performers, each one giving something real to a saga that has outlasted trends, cynics, and time itself.” He added that the series’s success is not the work of one person alone, but a shared achievement across decades.
Diesel also introduced Michael Lesslie as the newest writer helping to polish the script for the finale, titled Fast Forever. He described the story as having “something real beating inside it,” and said working with Lesslie reignited his excitement for the series.
As both a star and executive producer, Diesel admits the pressure of closing the franchise is heavy. “There is a particular weight that comes with delivering a finale. A responsibility you feel in your chest, to everyone who gave something to get here, to the audience that stayed,” he explained.
He says this responsibility motivates him to make the ending meaningful for everyone involved. The final movie will return to Los Angeles, bringing the story back to its roots after years of global spy-style missions.
Diesel sees this as more than just a location choice, calling it “a gift” to finish the story where it all began. Outside of Fast and Furious, Diesel is keeping busy with several projects.
He is developing a live-action Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots film for Mattel Studios, which he describes as a story about compassion, and will return to his fan-favorite role in Riddick: Furya.
Fast Forever will be directed by Louis Leterrier and aims to resolve the cliffhangers from 2023’s Fast X. While the full cast is not yet confirmed, Diesel is expected to reunite with stars like Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, and Tyrese Gibson.
The finale promises to celebrate the car culture and street racing that originally made the franchise so beloved. The entire saga is set to conclude on March 17, 2028, and fans around the world are eagerly awaiting the final ride.
