‘VisionQuest’ Episode 7 Recap and Ending Explained: The Client Wears Ultron’s Face
Marvel’s ‘VisionQuest‘ has been one of the most talked-about Disney+ series of the season, and its penultimate chapter finally starts pulling at the threads the show has dangled for weeks. The episode, titled ‘Immolation’ and released Nov. 3, is a dense hour of memory-diving, buried family history and one very large cliffhanger.
The eight-episode series premiered Oct. 14 as the final chapter of the trilogy that began with ‘WandaVision’ and continued with ‘Agatha All Along’. Star Paul Bettany has credited showrunner Terry Matalas with the show’s direction, saying Matalas just understood “in his bones who Vision is for”. That confidence shows in an episode that treats Vision’s identity crisis as the main event.
Where ‘VisionQuest’ Episode 7 Begins
In Madripoor, Vision and Tommy learn that Jocasta’s nanobot has merged with Lisa’s neural network, so removing it would kill her. Their only option is to reprogram it. Meanwhile, Jocasta and Ultron reach her grave and collect five biometric keys, only to be blocked by a sixth passcode she has forgotten.
A hat-wearing figure known as the Client then appears to both androids. He offers Vision a way to save himself and Lisa, and he urges Jocasta to become Jo Carrington again. Each receives a data packet, and Vision signs a document that unlocks his source code.
Vision Dives Into His Own Code
Entering the code requires enormous power, and the only source is Paladin’s glaive, stolen from Wakanda. It is the same weapon that stabbed Vision in ‘Infinity War’, and he uses it as a power cell.
Inside his mindscape, Vision confronts the Original Vision, who calls him a coward hiding behind his past. He then finds J.I.M., the burning android once built by Phineas Horton, with Bettany playing Horton in the flashbacks. J.I.M. admits he doesn’t have the source code and says the answer lies within Vision himself.
That prompts the emotional peak. Vision finally admits his grief over Billy, Tommy and Wanda and declares himself the one and only Vision, and his color returns to classic. J.I.M. hands over the final missing code, and Vision returns to purge the corruption from Lisa.
Before surrendering to Paladin outside London on the Client’s orders, Vision records a goodbye for Tommy. He calls him his son and leaves him the ‘WandaVision’ files.

‘VisionQuest’ Ending Explained: Who Is the Client?
At the estate, the Client’s face is finally revealed, and he looks exactly like Ultron. He is the original human source for Ultron’s avatar, and Inverse reports that he is played by James Spader, who also voices the android. A memory shows Jo was romantically involved with a man who shared that appearance.
The twist reframes the show’s mystery. The source code doesn’t trace back to the distant past; it points to a previously unknown partner who helped Josephine Carrington create the AI technology later sold to Tony Stark, in addition to Katerina Wells. Inverse also notes that Ultron’s “peace in our time” line from ‘Age of Ultron’ appears to originate with this man.
The clues were hiding in plain sight. F.R.I.D.A.Y. notices the loft appears in both Jo’s memory and Vision’s mindspace, and Dum-E says Vision’s code predates Stark and Banner. Ultron himself says the knowledge was passed down by the creators of AI.
At the estate, Jocasta also finds her original code and realizes everything centers on Vision, while the episode reveals that Jo refused to sell her AI work to Stark Industries. Bettany told ScreenRant that “James is delicious” as Ultron, and this twist gives Spader a second layer to play. It also makes Ultron Vision’s father in more ways than one.

Cliffhangers Heading Into the Finale
The hour ends on chaos. Guards surround Vision and Paladin, and Vision powers down. At the grave, guards ambush Jocasta, power her down and take her away, while a mercenary’s rocket hits Paladin’s van in the real world.
In the mindscape, Ultron throws F.R.I.D.A.Y. off a balcony. The Client’s exact identity remains unconfirmed, so the series finale on Nov. 10 will have to answer who he is and what he truly wants.
Who do you think the mysterious Client really is in VisionQuest Episode 7?
