The final chapter of the ‘WandaVision’ story has been a long time coming. Fans have waited years to find out what became of the rebooted android after he left Westview, and the answer is now only days away. Marvel is clearly making the most of that anticipation.

‘VisionQuest‘ is billed as the third entry in a trilogy that began with ‘WandaVision’ and continued with ‘Agatha All Along’. It brings Paul Bettany back as the Vision, in his first live-action MCU role since the series that launched Marvel on Disney+. After a steady run of trailers and promotional videos, the story is about to begin.

Marvel Studios has now released a new 18-second teaser for the series, which premieres on Disney+ on October 14. It leans into the emotional core of the story, with the tagline centered on doing anything for family. The footage shows Bettany’s Vision in his human form in a lantern-lit night market, mid-motion and clearly on alert, with a younger man close behind him.

That younger man appears to be the show’s key relationship. In the series, Ruaridh Mollica plays Thomas Shepherd, a teenager who claims to be Vision’s son and whose body houses the soul of Tommy Maximoff. Mollica takes over the role from Jett Klyne, who played one of Wanda and Vision’s twin sons in ‘WandaVision’.

The series picks up with Vision rebooted and in hiding, having escaped people who wanted to weaponize him. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S. and Ultron. A bounty on his head soon puts him on the run alongside Thomas.

Showrunner Terry Matalas, who previously led ‘Star Trek: Picard’, has described the story as a deep dive into intergenerational trauma between fathers and sons. Much of it unfolds inside a reality-warping mansion within Vision’s own mind. The series was originally supervised by ‘WandaVision’ creator Jac Schaeffer before Matalas took over.

The biggest draw may be the return of James Spader as Ultron, the artificial intelligence who created Vision in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’. Ultron appears in a human form inside Vision’s mind, and Matalas has called the dynamic between the two a central pillar of the series. Trailers show Ultron asserting himself as Vision’s true father, which is partly accurate given how Vision was created.

The two actors have already shown their chemistry. During the D23 presentation, Spader’s Ultron joked about humanity, and Bettany shot back, “I seem to recall you were most interested in wiping them out.” That mix of dry humor and menace seems to be exactly the tone the show is aiming for.

The ensemble goes well beyond the two leads. Todd Stashwick plays Paladin, a bounty hunter trying to acquire Vision’s technology, and T’Nia Miller plays Jocasta. Orla Brady voices F.R.I.D.A.Y., Emily Hampshire is E.D.I.T.H. and James D’Arcy is J.A.R.V.I.S., while Faran Tahir returns as Raza, a role he first played in ‘Iron Man’.

Bettany’s history with the franchise adds extra weight. He first voiced Tony Stark’s AI J.A.R.V.I.S. beginning with ‘Iron Man’ in 2008, and then played Vision starting with ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ in 2015. The new series gives him a chance to bring both parts of that legacy together.

The show runs for eight episodes, beginning with a two-part premiere on October 14. New episodes follow weekly on Wednesdays, leading to a finale on November 25. It is part of Phase Six of the MCU and is described as the 18th television installment in the franchise.

Marvel has also supported the launch with extra material, including a video revisiting Vision’s MCU history and a free prequel episode online. Together, the promotions are designed to bring casual viewers up to speed before the premiere. For longtime fans, they serve as a reminder of how complicated Vision’s journey has been.

For many viewers, ‘VisionQuest’ is the show that will finally answer what happens to Vision and Wanda’s story. The new teaser suggests the emotional stakes are higher than ever, with family at the center. With the premiere just days away, the wait is almost over.
