‘War’ Trailer Turns Dominic West and Sienna Miller’s Divorce Into an All-Out Legal Battle, Release Date Revealed

HBO and Sky have quietly built one of the most reliable pipelines for prestige British drama in recent years, consistently delivering sharp, star-studded series that dig into high society’s messiest corners. Their latest collaboration brings together two familiar faces from opposite sides of a very different kind of conflict this time.

Dominic West, best known for his career-defining turn on ‘The Wire,’ and Sienna Miller, who most recently starred in ‘Anatomy of a Scandal,’ are teaming up for a project that trades crime drama for courtroom warfare. The two actors previously worked together briefly on the 2016 short film ‘The Tale of Thomas Burberry,’ but this marks their first major collaboration as co-leads.

That collaboration has now produced a striking new trailer. HBO Max has released the official teaser for ‘War,’ a new legal drama premiering October 1, confirming the show will stream weekly on Thursdays across an eight-episode first season.

Created by George Kay, known for his work on ‘Lupin’ and ‘Hijack,’ ‘War’ centers on London’s two most powerful law firms, Cathcarts & Sons and Taylor & Byrne, as they clash head-to-head in what’s described as a headline-grabbing legal battle. West plays tech entrepreneur Morgan Henderson, while Miller stars as his estranged wife Carla Duval, an internationally famous film star, with the season built entirely around the explosive fallout of their divorce.

Caught in the middle of that legal firestorm is ambitious young lawyer Jonathan “Johnny” Warren, played by Archie Renaux, who finds himself pulled into a world where, according to the show’s official synopsis, “ambition is currency, betrayal is strategy, and winning is everything.” The trailer itself opens with West and Miller’s characters reflecting on how they’ve grown apart, setting the emotional stakes before the legal maneuvering fully kicks in.

Rounding out the ensemble, Phoebe Fox and James McArdle play Serena Byrne and Nicholas Taylor, the title partners at Taylor & Byrne who are also, notably, partners in life outside the office. On the opposing side, Nina Sosanya plays Beatrice “Queen Bea” Ubosi and Pip Torrens plays St. John Smallwood, the fierce rivals leading the Cathcarts & Sons legal team.

The broader supporting cast includes Celia Imrie, Nick Mohammed, Emma Laird, Archie Panjabi, Adrian Scarborough, Honor Swinton Byrne, and Miles Jupp, among several others, giving the series a genuinely deep bench of British acting talent surrounding its central conflict.

‘War’ has already been given a two-season order, with production on Season 2 currently underway even before the first season has premiered. That next chapter will reportedly shift focus to a new, equally explosive case, this time centered on a defamation suit, with Marisa Tomei, Kelly Macdonald, and David Harewood joining as guest stars playing clients caught up in that next legal battle.

That kind of early confidence suggests HBO and Sky are treating ‘War’ as a genuine flagship project rather than a one-off limited series, positioning it to potentially anchor their legal drama slate for years to come if the first season performs as expected.

Season one of ‘War’ premieres October 1 on HBO in the United States, with the UK release following one day later on Sky, on October 2. In the U.S., the series will stream on HBO Max, while international audiences can catch it across Australia, Southeast Asia, Latin America, France, Belgium, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.

The series is co-produced by New Pictures, a Banijay company, alongside Observatory Pictures, with Ben Taylor serving as lead director and Laurie Borg producing. With its premiere just weeks away, ‘War’ looks poised to become one of the fall season’s most talked-about new prestige dramas.
