What’s Next for Curry Barker? ‘Obsession’ Director Teases His Upcoming Projects & Why Fans Might Be Disappointed
Curry Barker is opening up about what comes after the huge success of Obsession and how uncertain his next steps feel.
Curry Barker says the success of Obsession has changed his life very quickly. The film became a breakout hit and brought him a lot of attention in Hollywood. But even with all that pressure, he is not rushing into a sequel.
He makes it clear that a direct follow-up is not happening soon. He said, “I don’t want to go straight into Obsession 2. I have such a cool idea for it that I won’t say. I’m not saying it has to be five, six years from now. But I think people would be just as excited for it if it came a little down the road. It’s a whirlwind and I’m trying to figure it out.”
Instead of moving fast on a sequel, Barker is looking at several different projects at the same time. One of the biggest is a new film called Anything But Ghosts, which he has already shot. It follows ghost hunters who fake their work but then run into something real. He has been editing it and says it will be very different from Obsession, even if it still has his style.
He is also working on ideas for other stories. One is a horror version of a short film idea called The Chair. Another is Milk and Serial, a dark story about a killer with a prank YouTube channel. Barker said this could become a feature film, and he might not even direct it himself. He is open to producing it or bringing other filmmakers in.
At the same time, bigger studio offers are coming in. He has been linked to a reboot of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Barker says he has watched many films in that series to figure out how to make something fresh. He wants it to feel grounded and scary again, not just repetitive chase scenes.

He also talks about how hard it is to choose what to do next. He said he is stuck between doing original films or working on big existing franchises. Both paths feel exciting, but also stressful.
During the interview, Barker also mentioned getting advice from well-known directors like Ari Aster, Zach Cregger, and Fede Álvarez. He says they have been supportive and open with him as he tries to figure out his next step.
Even with all the pressure, Barker says he is trying not to rush. He knows his next move will shape his career, so he is taking time to think. Right now, he is focused on finishing Anything But Ghosts and deciding which of his many ideas should come next.
In simple terms, Curry Barker is in a rare position. He has success, offers, and attention from Hollywood, but he is still trying to choose the right direction. And for now, he is not in a hurry to make Obsession 2.
