William Shatner celebrated a major milestone on Sunday, March 22, as he turned 95 years old. The legendary Canadian actor shared a playful message on social media, joking that he is “still smokin’” and proving that age hasn’t slowed him down.

Shatner posted a collage of photos, including one where he smiles warmly and another where he relaxes with a cigar. Alongside the images, he shared a bit of life advice he’s learned over nearly a century.

“I’ve learned two things: Never waste a good cigar. Never trust anyone who says you should ‘act your age,’” he told his fans. His lighthearted take on growing older has become a hallmark of his public persona.

Shatner is best known for his iconic role as Captain James T. Kirk on Star Trek, which he first played in 1966. He led the starship Enterprise across the original television series and seven feature films, ending the character’s journey in 1994.

Outside of space adventures, Shatner earned praise for roles in shows like T.J. Hooker and his Emmy-winning portrayal of Denny Crane in Boston Legal. The actor has often spoken about how grateful he feels to reach such an advanced age surrounded by loved ones.

He shares three daughters—Leslie, Lisabeth, and Melanie—with his first wife, Gloria Rand, and recently reflected on his pride in their accomplishments. In late 2025, he described himself as “blessed beyond measure with [health], family, and a beautiful gathering.”

Giving back has always been important to Shatner. For 35 years, he has hosted the Hollywood Charity Horse Show, which has raised millions for children’s and veterans’ organizations. He told reporters in the past, “For the last many years, I have celebrated my birthday by working on a very successful charity.”

Despite turning 95, Shatner shows no signs of slowing down. He is preparing for a convention tour, including appearances at Planet Comicon in Kansas City and Steel City Con in April. In May, he will travel to Liverpool, England, for fan events alongside other science fiction stars.

Shatner also remains active behind the camera, working on documentaries and hosting The UnXplained. He recently recovered from a shoulder surgery after a horse-riding accident and told fans he was feeling much better and ready to get back to work.

Later this spring, Shatner will host a fan club event and charity dinner in Burbank, California, giving supporters a chance to meet him in person while continuing to support his philanthropic efforts.
