‘Wuthering Heights’ Star Margot Robbie’s Viral ‘New Mom Mode’ Photos Aren’t New, and Fans Are Only Now Finding Out
Few things spread faster on social media than a paparazzi photo of a famous face with a fresh caption. When the image is of someone as famously private as Margot Robbie, the speculation tends to arrive even faster. This week, the viral Margot Robbie photos have been a good reminder that a confident caption isn’t the same as a confirmed fact.
Robbie doesn’t even keep an Instagram account, so glimpses of her off-duty style tend to travel far. Her profile has been enormous since ‘Barbie,’ which she starred in and produced through LuckyChap Entertainment. The film grossed $1.4 billion worldwide and earned 8 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture.
On October 6, a post on X shared two photos of Robbie walking down a Los Angeles sidewalk with the caption “Margot Robbie out in LA in her new mom mode.” In the images she wears denim shorts, an oversized white shirt and towering red platform heels, carrying a baby car seat while a friend in a pink floral maxi dress walks beside her. The post pulled in more than 450K views, around 6.2K likes and 185 reposts, and plenty of people took the caption at face value.

The images aren’t recent at all. The outfit matches photos Just Jared published on September 10, 2023, from Robbie’s lunch with friends at The Ivy in Beverly Hills on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Just Jared described her look as Daisy Dukes, a white tank top and patent red Chanel platforms, with a Chanel bag, and credited the photos to Backgrid.
Just Jared’s original piece doesn’t mention a car seat, so it’s worth noting that the whose-baby question is unanswered. Fiction Horizon reports that who the baby in the car seat was that afternoon has never been confirmed. What the reports do agree on is the timing: Robbie wasn’t a mother yet, and she wasn’t pregnant, when the original photos were taken.
Not everyone bought the framing. One reply under the viral post asked whether any mother would carry a baby in a car seat while wearing heels that high, and the comment drew plenty of agreement. It turned out to be a sharp instinct, since the image wasn’t a recent snapshot of a new parent juggling a newborn.
The look also fits Robbie’s 2023 style. Her ‘Barbie’ press tour became a fashion event of its own, known for micro minis and sky-high heels. She has been a Chanel ambassador since 2018 and later became the face of Chanel No. 5, so red Chanel platforms fit right in.
Robbie’s actual path to motherhood came later. News that she and husband Tom Ackerley were expecting broke in July 2024, after she was photographed with a baby bump on vacation at Lake Como in Italy. She later showed her bump on the red carpet at a Los Angeles screening of ‘My Old Ass’ in September 2024.
The couple reportedly welcomed a baby boy in the fall of 2024, and they have kept his name and photos private. A source told People that they had waited a long time to become parents. Robbie and Ackerley met on the set of ‘Suite Française’ in 2013 and married in 2016, and since becoming parents they have kept family life largely away from the cameras.
None of this has slowed her career. Robbie starred as Cathy in Emerald Fennell’s ‘Wuthering Heights,’ which opened on February 13 opposite Jacob Elordi’s Heathcliff. It debuted at No. 1 at the box office with $34.8 million domestically, despite mixed reviews, and ended up grossing around $242 million worldwide against an $80 million budget.
She also returned to the red carpet after the baby to promote ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ alongside Colin Farrell. Even so, it’s an old photo from her ‘Barbie’ summer that has people talking again.
The episode shows how easily a recycled image can turn into a brand-new headline. A single caption can rewrite the story, and the “new mom” label spread widely before anyone checked the date. With stars as private as Robbie, that gap between photo and fact only grows.
Did you initially believe the viral Margot Robbie “new mom” photos were recent?
