X-Men Reboot Casting Call Reveals Three New Supporting Roles Marvel Is Looking to Fill

Marvel Studios’ long-awaited X-Men reboot has been one of the most closely tracked casting stories in Hollywood for the better part of a year, with every new name, rumor and denial sending fans into a frenzy. Ever since Disney’s 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox handed the mutant franchise back to Marvel, speculation over who would suit up as the next generation of X-Men has rarely let up.

That speculation reached a major milestone at D23 in August, when Marvel Studios officially unveiled the core cast for the untitled project. Director Jake Schreier and star Sadie Sink, who had already debuted as Jean Grey in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ were joined onstage by Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue and Maya Boyd as Storm, with Adam Driver later revealed as the villain Nathaniel Milbury. Kevin Feige made clear at the time that the announcement was not the finished roster, teasing more casting news to come.

That promise appears to be materializing. According to a report shared by Cosmic Marvel and credited to insider Daniel Richtman, the ‘X-Men’ production is now reportedly casting for three additional roles: an Asian woman in a supporting part, a Native American man in a supporting part, and a woman whose role will start small in the first film before expanding significantly in the sequel.

Details on which specific mutants these roles might correspond to have not been confirmed, but the description fits the pattern Marvel has followed throughout this casting process, filling out its ensemble gradually rather than revealing every character at once. The mention of a role designed to grow between films also hints at longer-term storytelling ambitions, suggesting Marvel is already building toward a sequel before the first movie has even entered production.

The D23 reveal itself was carefully sequenced, introducing familiar faces like Jean Grey and Cyclops before surprising audiences with Driver’s late reveal as the film’s central antagonist.

Filling out supporting roles with characters defined by their background, rather than immediately naming specific comic book mutants, also mirrors how Marvel has handled other recent ensemble projects, where casting details trickle out well ahead of any official character confirmation. It leaves plenty of room for fans to speculate about who these new additions might ultimately play once more information becomes available.

The film remains without an official title but is locked in for a May 5, 2028 theatrical release, positioning it as one of the studio’s marquee projects following ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’ With Schreier directing and a script from Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, the project is aiming to give the X-Men a distinct identity separate from the Fox-era films that defined the franchise for nearly two decades.

Whether these new supporting roles belong to established comic characters or entirely new additions to the mutant roster remains to be seen. Given how much attention every previous casting update has drawn, it likely won’t be long before more concrete details start to emerge.
