‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ Showrunner Teases a Villain-Heavy Season 2

Marvel Animation’s ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man‘ quickly carved out its own identity within the wall-crawler’s crowded screen history, reimagining Peter Parker’s origin story in an alternate timeline separate from Tom Holland’s MCU version. Instead of Tony Stark mentoring a young Peter, this take swaps in Norman Osborn as his internship boss and eventual mentor figure, giving the series a distinctly different flavor from the films audiences already know, with Hudson Thames voicing Peter across the show’s run.

That first season leaned heavily into world-building, introducing Peter’s new circle of friends, including Harry Osborn and Nico Minoru, while slowly setting up Norman’s more sinister motives as Oscorp’s CEO. The season closed out on a wave of cliffhangers, teasing major shifts for nearly every character heading into whatever comes next.

Now, showrunner Jeff Trammell is offering fans a clearer sense of what that next chapter actually looks like. Speaking to The Walt Disney Company, Trammell explained that Season 1 was largely about establishing the world the series operates in, while Season 2 shifts into a more consequential phase of storytelling. “I look at Season 1 like we’re building this world, and we’re setting the board,” Trammell said. “In Season 2 and future seasons, now we’re playing the game.”

That shift includes a noticeably deeper dive into Spider-Man’s classic rogues’ gallery. According to Variety, Season 2’s trailer confirmed the introduction of the Venom symbiote alongside villains like Doctor Octopus, Chameleon, and Scorpion, giving Peter a considerably more dangerous rotation of threats to face compared to the first season’s lower-stakes conflicts.

Season 2 isn’t just bringing new villains into the fold. Gwen Stacy is set to join the series as well, confirmed by Trammell himself in an Instagram post following the Season 1 finale, complete with her transformation into her superhero alter ego, Spider-Gwen.

Charlie Cox is also returning as Daredevil, continuing the character’s connective presence across Marvel Animation’s slate, while Norman and Harry Osborn both return from Season 1 to continue their complicated dynamics with Peter. Hugh Dancy joins the cast as Otto Octavius, and Jonathan Medina takes on the role of Scorpion, rounding out a lineup built to test Peter far more directly than anything he faced during his freshman year at Midtown High.

Kari Wahlgren also continues voicing Aunt May, keeping one of Peter’s most grounding relationships intact heading into the season’s higher-stakes conflicts.

Marvel Animation confirmed Season 2 of ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ will premiere on Disney+ in fall 2026, continuing the story following Season 1’s debut in January 2025. The announcement came alongside a new trailer shown at New York Comic Con, giving fans their first extended look at the expanded villain roster and returning characters ahead of the season’s release.

With Trammell’s comments making clear that the show intends to escalate its stakes considerably now that its foundational world-building is complete, Season 2 looks positioned to test Peter Parker in ways the freshman-year setup of Season 1 never fully explored.

Between the arrival of Venom, the expansion of Peter’s rogues’ gallery, and Gwen Stacy’s debut as Spider-Gwen, fans have plenty of new storylines to look forward to as the series heads into its next chapter, especially given how strongly the first season resonated with both critics and audiences.
