Your Friendly Neighborhood Menace: Spider-Man Hilariously Wrecks J.K. Simmons’ Dream Day at Citi Field

New York Mets had another rough night at Citi Field on Tuesday, but one of the funniest moments of the game had nothing to do with baseball. According to the team’s in-stadium entertainment and videos shared online, J.K. Simmons became part of a perfect Spider-Man joke while watching the Mets take on the Cincinnati Reds.

Simmons was shown sitting in the crowd when someone dressed as Spider-Man suddenly appeared nearby holding a copy of the Daily Bugle newspaper. The joke immediately landed with fans because Simmons has a long history with the Spider-Man movies. In director Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire, Simmons played the loud and angry newspaper editor J. Jonah Jameson.

His character became famous for constantly yelling at Peter Parker and demanding photos of Spider-Man. One of his most memorable lines was, “Get me pictures of Spider-Man!” That is why the moment at the Mets game was so funny. Instead of Simmons chasing Spider-Man for photos like in the movies, Spider-Man showed up right next to him at the stadium like he was turning the joke back on Jameson himself.

Simmons is not just a movie star. He is also a big baseball fan and has often supported the Detroit Tigers, his hometown team. He even played a Tigers manager in the movie For Love of the Game alongside Kevin Costner.

Another familiar face also appeared at Citi Field on Tuesday. Bill Fagerbakke, best known as the voice of Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants, threw out the first pitch and helped announce the Mets’ starting lineup.

The fun celebrity moments gave fans something to smile about because the Mets have struggled badly this season. New York entered Tuesday’s game with a 22-32 record and had already lost four straight games after getting blown out by Cincinnati in the series opener. Fans could only hope the team would play better with Simmons watching from the stands.
