Zendaya Reveals Why Tom Holland Is the Perfect Spider-Man: “He Truly Cares”
Zendaya believes Tom Holland’s connection to Spider-Man goes far beyond the movies. The actress recently opened up about how her longtime co-star and husband has carried the responsibility of playing Peter Parker, both while filming and in his everyday life.
The pair have been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2017, with Zendaya playing MJ and Holland taking on the role of Spider-Man. Over the years, Holland’s version of the character has become one of the most popular portrayals of the web-slinger, especially among younger fans who see Peter Parker as a hero they can relate to.
During an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Zendaya praised the way Holland handles the attention and expectations that come with being Spider-Man. Sitting alongside Holland, she explained that her favorite part of his performance is not just what he does on screen, but how he represents the character away from the cameras.
“My favorite thing about Tom’s Spider-Man is how Tom handles Spider-Man outside of Spider-Man,” Zendaya said during the interview. She added that many fans, especially children, connect deeply with Peter Parker and that Holland understands the importance of that connection.
According to Zendaya, Holland has treated the role with a lot of care and respect. “He’s just handled that weight with such grace,” she said, explaining that Holland “really loves and cares so much about the character and what the character means to other people.”
The actress also highlighted the unique responsibility that comes with playing a superhero who inspires so many people. She explained that when Holland meets young fans, they are not just seeing an actor — they are seeing Spider-Man himself.

“When you are in front of these kids, you are Spider-Man,” Zendaya said, before telling Holland that she enjoys watching how he carries the character into his everyday life.
Holland has previously spoken about the pressure of returning as Peter Parker for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ especially after the success of previous films like ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’ In an interview with Kino TV, the actor admitted that stepping back into the role came with more pressure than ever before.
“After the third movie came out, making this film was the most nervous I’d been stepping onto set as Spider-Man,” Holland said. However, he added that those nerves also made the experience more rewarding.
The actor explained that when he first became Spider-Man, he was simply excited about getting the chance to play one of Marvel’s biggest heroes. Now, he understands the larger impact the character has on audiences around the world.
Zendaya also reflected on how much they have changed since joining the franchise as teenagers. Both actors were 19 years old when they first entered the MCU, and she said they now have a different perspective after years of playing these iconic characters.
She noted that it has been special watching Holland take more ownership of Spider-Man and bring more of himself into the role. For Zendaya, the biggest sign of Holland’s success is not just the box office numbers, but the way fans continue to connect with the character.
Do you think Tom Holland is the definitive Spider-Man?
With ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ continuing Peter Parker’s story, Holland’s commitment to the role remains one of the biggest reasons audiences continue to support his version of the hero.
