Curry Barker’s horror film Obsession is having a huge run at the box office in 2026. The information comes from box office reporting by Deadline, which tracked the film’s weekly earnings and overall performance.

The movie has shown strong staying power after its release. It opened with 17 million dollars in its first weekend. In its second weekend, it actually grew to 23 million dollars. The momentum continued into the third weekend with 26.4 million dollars. By the fourth weekend, it still earned a strong 25.6 million dollars in the United States alone.

This type of steady performance is rare for horror films, which usually drop sharply after opening weekend. Instead, Obsession has continued to build an audience over time through strong word-of-mouth and repeat viewers.

According to Deadline, the film’s fourth weekend performance set a new record for the horror genre. It became the biggest fourth weekend ever for a horror movie, passing the long-standing record held by The Blair Witch Project from 1999, which earned 24.3 million dollars in its fourth weekend.

The film has also reached major milestones globally. Its worldwide total now stands at around 224.7 million dollars, with a domestic total of about 152.1 million dollars. These numbers make it the highest-grossing film ever released by Focus Features.

With these results, Obsession has also become the top horror movie of 2026 so far. It has outperformed major studio releases, including Scream 7, which earned about 207.9 million dollars worldwide and 121.9 million dollars domestically.

One of the most surprising parts of the film’s success is its budget. The production cost was extremely low, at just 750,000 dollars. Focus Features later acquired the movie for around 15 million dollars. Even with marketing costs and theater revenue splits, the film has become a major financial success for the studio.

The story behind Obsession also connects to its online popularity. The film follows a hopeless romantic who uses a mysterious object called the One Wish Willow. After breaking it to win the affection of his crush, he gets what he wants, but quickly discovers that his wish comes with dark consequences.

The film stars Inde Navarrette, known for Superman & Lois, and Michael Johnston, known for Teen Wolf. Their performances have been highlighted in early audience reactions as part of the film’s appeal.

The success of Obsession is also part of a wider trend in horror and indie filmmaking. Another film, Backrooms from A24 and director Kane Parsons, is also performing strongly at the box office. It has earned around 135 million dollars domestically and 212.6 million dollars worldwide. It is now close to overtaking Obsession in total global earnings.

Industry analysts, as reported by Deadline, note that both films show how original horror stories can still perform extremely well in theaters, even against established franchises and sequels.

In the case of Obsession, its success is especially notable because it is an original idea with a very small budget. Its strong performance proves that audience interest in fresh horror concepts is still very strong in 2026.

With several weeks still in theaters, Obsession may continue to grow its total and further cement its place as one of the biggest horror success stories of the year.
