‘3 Body Problem’ Season 3 Lands Major Production Update as Netflix Sci-Fi Epic Moves Forward
Production on Netflix’s sci-fi hit “3 Body Problem” is moving forward again, with new behind-the-scenes images showing filming for Season 3 now underway. According to reporting from What’s on Netflix, cast members Marlo Kelly and Jess Hong were spotted shooting dramatic scenes on Camber Sands beach in East Sussex, England.
The photos offer an early glimpse at the next chapter of the series, which is being developed by David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo. The show adapts Liu Cixin’s “Remembrance of Earth’s Past” novels and continues building toward its final stretch of storytelling.
The new images show a noticeable contrast between the two main characters featured in the shoot. Jess Hong, who plays physicist Jin Cheng, appears in worn, mud-stained clothing that suggests a historical or survival-based setting. The report suggests she may once again be inside the series’ virtual reality “game” sequences, which have played a key role in earlier seasons.
Marlo Kelly, who plays Tatiana Haas, is shown in a much more modern and tactical outfit. She is dressed in black clothing and boots, but also appears injured in some shots, with visible damage to her arm. According to Click Media and News, this could indicate that her storyline continues to bridge both the real world and the game world, where the stakes appear to be increasing.
The beach filming is notable because it is not the main production base for the current seasons. Season 1 of “3 Body Problem” was primarily filmed in the United Kingdom, but production has since shifted to Budapest, Hungary. That location is now the central hub for Seasons 2 and 3, where large-scale studio space and international filming infrastructure are being used for the sci-fi series.
The report notes that the UK shoot appears to be a smaller, specific segment of filming rather than the main location for the season. It suggests that most of the larger storylines, especially those involving global or space-based events, are being handled in Hungary.
While Netflix has not released official plot details for Season 3, the new images suggest the story will continue blending reality with virtual environments, a major theme of the series so far. The contrast between Jin Cheng’s survival-style appearance and Tatiana Haas’s more militarized look hints at separate but potentially intersecting story arcs.
The series, created by the “Game of Thrones” showrunners, has been steadily building toward the conclusion of its adaptation. The production team has previously confirmed that the story will be completed across the planned seasons, with filming structured to match the full narrative arc of the books.

According to earlier reporting referenced in the same coverage, production on the final seasons is continuing on schedule, with additional filming expected in Hungary. New cast members are also expected to join the expanding storyline as the scope of the conflict grows.
For now, the Camber Sands shoot offers one of the first real looks at Season 3 in motion, confirming that the series is actively moving toward its conclusion while keeping much of its story tightly under wraps.
