90s Classic Meets Nicki Minaj — TikTok Can’t Get Enough of the Viral ‘Beez in the Trap’ Mashup
Nicki Minaj and 4 Non Blondes probably never thought they’d end up on the same track, but TikTok made it happen. The app’s newest viral sound blends Minaj’s 2012 rap hit “Beez in the Trap” with 4 Non Blondes’ 1993 rock song “What’s Up?”, and somehow, it works.
The remix came from TikTok creator @dj.auxlord, who’s known for mixing songs that seem like total opposites. He first posted the mashup in August 2025, but it didn’t take off right away. By October, though, it exploded across the app. Now there are more than 700,000 videos using the sound.

The idea behind the videos is simple. Two people stand back-to-back while the camera moves between them. One person sings the emotional “Hey-yeah-yeah” line from 4 Non Blondes, usually with dramatic gestures.
Then the beat drops, and the camera flips to the other person calmly rapping Minaj’s “Beez in the trap, bee-beez in the trap.” The contrast between the two songs makes the whole thing hilarious , and that’s exactly why people love it.
One of the biggest hits using the remix came from user @almayduh, who dressed up as Miss Trunchbull and Bruce Bogtrotter from Matilda. The video, complete with chocolate cake, has pulled in over 107 million views and nearly 20 million likes.

The trend has only grown, especially with Halloween around. TikTokers have been dressing as opposites, like Moana and Maui, Fiona and Lord Farquaad, or even Pennywise and Freddy Krueger, to act out their versions of the sound. Each new take seems to outdo the last.
In a 2012 interview on The Graham Norton Show, Nicki Minaj explained the meaning behind “Beez in the Trap.” She said, “‘Beez’ just means, ‘I am always…’ you know, that’s our slang way of saying, ‘I beez doing such-and-such-and-such.’ So it’s really like, ‘I am always in the trap.’ Now, the trap, ladies and gentlemen, relates to anywhere where you get your money.” She even joked with the host, saying, “You in the trap right now, playboy.”
Both 4 Non Blondes and Minaj have noticed the trend, and they’re totally into it. The band wrote on Instagram, “We can’t believe the love this trend is getting!” Linda Perry, the group’s lead singer, commented “Crazy.”
Minaj joined in by posting her own TikTok using the mashup and told fans in the comments, “Barbz, show love to the ppl doing the trend. Love you. You’re cute. Or whatever.”
The “Beez in the Trap / What’s Up?” mashup is another example of how TikTok keeps reinventing music from the past. It’s random, funny, and surprisingly catchy, the kind of chaos the internet seems to thrive on.
